DC CEO Peter Safran has opened up about Jason Momoa’s future with the studio after Aquaman 2. In an interview with The Independent, Safran suggested that Momoa’s new release could potentially be his final outing as Aquaman in the DC universe. Safran urged fans and audiences to support Momoa’s journey in the new film, sharing that James Wan had completed what he started with the first film. Safran told The Independent:

“We’ll see what happens, but I really hope people will come and support his potentially last stand as Aquaman. […] What I hope is that people will really be here to support him on this journey. If it’s the end of the journey, fine. If it goes on, that’s also fine, but I think it has meant so much to him. The way [director] James [Wan] crafted this second film, it feels like a very complete story when you watch the two films together.”

Safran also hinted that Aquaman 2 may play a crucial role in determining the Game of Thrones actor’s future journey within the DCU. He assured that Momoa will always be welcomed at DC and Warner Bros. He also mentioned that the Fast X actor’s next movie is Minecraft with WB. Safran shared:

“We’ll see what happens with him beyond it. I know that Jason will always have a home at DC, and at Warner Bros. In fact, his next movie is Minecraft.”

The DC chief also appreciated Momoa’s dedication to the role, sharing that the actor’s journey in the role has been longer than many realize. Safran revealed that it has been 11 or 12 years since the actor was cast in the role. Interestingly, Momoa initially auditioned for the role of Superman in Man of Steel, but Zack Snyder saw a better fit for him as Aquaman.

“I don’t necessarily want it to be the end… [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice. The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there’s a possibility. But right now, I’m like, ‘It’s not looking too good.’”
