Jay Z wasn’t holding back during his speech after accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the Grammy Awards this year. The acclaimed rapper, who has earned 24 wins out of his 88 Grammy nods, took shots at the Recording Academy for ignoring one of the biggest artists of our time in the most precious category.
Jay Z, who has been married to Beyonce, brought up the fact that despite Beyonce being the most successful at the Grammys, he was startled by the fact that she never won the biggest accolade.
Jay Z Calls Out the Grammys for Snubbing Beyonce of the Biggest Accolade Numerous Times
Surprisingly, even though Beyonce has a Grammy count of 32, the most decorated artist ever, she has never won an Album of the Year despite earning the nod four times. But despite not having any nominations this year, the Renaissance Star did attend the event, joining her daughter Blue Ivy Carter and husband Jay Z, after skipping the Red carpet. And on the Recording Academy’s injustice towards his wife, Jay Z called out Grammys as he also took shots at some of the nominees this year, stressing “Some of you don’t belong in the category.” He said (via THR),
“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has the most Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that: The most Grammys. Never won album of the year. That doesn’t work. Some of you gonna go home and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category,”
Joined by his daughter as he collected his accolade, Jay Z then continued, “When I get nervous I tell the truth,” and fans too would agree with statements made by the hip-hop icon.
Taylor Swift Makes History With Her Win
While Beyonce has a total of 88 nods this year, her basket heading into this year’s Grammys was zero, as she quietly attended the ceremony with her family. And nominations for Album of the Year this year included Jon Batiste, boygenius, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey, Ocean Blvd, Janelle Monáe, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, and Taylor Swift. But unlike Beyonce, who has been snubbed from the accolade four times, Swift scored her historic fourth win for Album of the Year.
Holding the accolade, Swift added,
“I would love to tell you that this is the best moment of my life, but I feel this happy when I finish a song, or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love, or when I’m shot listing a music video or when I’m rehearsing with my dancers or my band or getting ready to go to Tokyo to play a show.”
Jay Z isn’t the only iconic rapper who has spoken out against the Record Academy, as previously, his Renegade collaborator Eminem also lashed out at the Grammys and their antics.
