The Night Agent Becomes the Most-Watched Netflix Show of 2023
Jenna Ortega’s Netflix series Wednesday was a huge win for the streamer in 2022, with huge audience viewership and an unprecedented success to the level that the makers and the cast never expected. The series topped the Netflix charts and was a huge pop culture phenomenon last year.
As it was released in November 2022, it was expected that the series would grow in popularity going into 2023. The streamer released a list of the most viewed series in the period from January to June 2023 (via NME) and surprisingly Wednesday did not top the list. This year saw a new blockbuster series in the form of The Night Agent and it became the most-watched Netflix series during that period.
The series was watched a whopping 812,100,000 hours around the world while Wednesday (placed at 4th place) had a 507,700,000 hours viewership count. The Night Agent may be arguably Netflix’s biggest success of 2023 as it topped Netflix charts for a long time just like Wednesday did last year.
It has already been renewed for a second season and audiences may get to see both the sophomore seasons of these series in the same year. It will be exciting to see which series performs better that way.
Tim Burton Praises Jenna Ortega’s Unique Talent as an Actress
Tim Burton worked with Jenna Ortega on the Netflix series Wednesday. In addition to being the executive producer of the show, he directed some episodes of the first season. Recently he talked about doing season 2 and working with Ortega on the series.
Speaking to the British Film Institute, Burton claimed that only Ortega could have done justice to the modern reiteration of Wednesday Addams. He went on to praise the young actress for elevating the written material using her unique acting abilities and talent. Burton said,
“When I did Wednesday, the reason I loved it is I just related to the character so much. But to me, it could not have been done without her. You can write it good, you can do whatever you want to do, but that kind of a character would need such clarity and purity and strength. A person has to have that.
So for me, she basically made the show that way. She’s one of the most aware, not only as an actress, but everything, around the camera, the set. She’s a very special talent. And she’s done a lot of horror movies, which I love too. That gave her a special place in my heart. “Oh, you’re doing another horror. Good.”
Burton also revealed that he will be involved in the production of the second season which is currently underway. In 2023, Ortega returned to the Scream franchise with Scream VI which received positive reviews and was a hit at the box office.
