The Scream franchise was successful because it balanced the humor with genre issues and played with its tropes, making it a true horror classic. The first Scream film was released in 1996 and aced financially. Now, its seventh installment is officially happening.
Paramount Pictures released the previous film (sixth Scream) in the United States on March 10, 2023. And now the seventh is on its way. But fans have been stunned by two unexpected exits from the new movie.
Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who played sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, won’t return for the upcoming sequel. And fans are upset about this new update.
Jenna Ortega’s Departure Throws Scream 7 Plans Into Chaos
Jenna Ortega is no longer the cast of Scream 7. Her exit follows the firing of co-star Melissa Barrera due to social media posts about the Israel and Palestine conflict. But Ortega’s departure is unrelated to her castmate’s firing. As per the Deadline, her exit was already planned even before the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The main reason the actress is leaving the film series is due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday Season 2. Though the production for the next season of the popular supernatural comedy horror Netflix TV series is yet to be announced publicly.
But fans are particularly having blues with Jenna Ortega’s exit. They believe that her departure negatively impacted the legacy of the 27-year-old franchise.
cant believe that scream has followed the same story and characters for over 25 years and now spyglass has ruined that legacy https://t.co/Td2Epm0S4Z

spyglass genuinely ruining one of the most influiential horror franchises and not just taking the L and cancelling is… angering… this movie is not going to be recieved well if its ever able to get off the ground.

They had something so special and just fucking destroyed it in one fell swoop.

Yeah thats actually soo sad that they ruined it. Like scream 6 was one of the best in the franchise probably only behind the first one and now we will never get the third one of that set. Like jfc they really ruined everything for no reason.

Looking at the tweets, fans don’t seem happy with the upcoming film. Ultimately, it will all depend on how the director and writers will take the movie ahead.
When is Scream 7 Releasing?
Christopher Landon will direct the seventh installment in the Scream franchise. He is taking over the role from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who helmed the last two Scream movies. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are expected to return as the writers for the new installment.
The release date for Scream 7 will be some time at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. But the offical release date for the new movie is not yet confirmed.
The departure of Ortega and the need for a fresh start suggest that there will be huge alterations to the original plans for Scream 7.
Even though the producers are starting from scratch, fans can expect a release date soon. Because Scream films don’t heavily rely on elaborative visual effects so they can be produced quickly.
