The multi-talented and multi-hyphenated Jennifer Lopez is back with another Netflix release, Atlas. This film quickly soared to the top spot as the most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide despite what the critics have to say about the film. This achievement isn’t unfamiliar territory for the star, as her 2023 movie, The Mother, also accomplished the same feat.

In Atlas, Lopez takes on the role of a government analyst thrust into an extraordinary journey to a distant realm. Her mission? To confront her oldest enemy, a robot warrior whose actions have disrupted her life in more ways than one. With her trademark charisma and skillful portrayal, Lopez brings depth and authenticity to her character, captivating audiences with her performance in a rather lackluster movie.
Amidst the chaos, it’s evident that Lopez’s star power and talent continue to shine brightly on both the big and small screens.

However this proves to be nothing new for the star, Jennifer Lopez as her 2023 action-packed The Mother, also emerged as Netflix’s biggest opening for a film in 2023. The action-thriller racked up an impressive 83.71 million hours viewed during the May 8-14 viewing window and claimed the top spot in 82 countries, amassing nearly 43 million views as per Variety.

Lopez’s captivating performances and the gripping narratives of both Atlas and The Mother have solidified her position in the industry. With her talent, she continues to captivate audiences worldwide, setting new benchmarks for success in the streaming era.
However, unfortunately, despite all the effort poured into the film, the flood of negative reviews labeling it as messy and confusing, coupled with its rather uneventful plot, propel it to the background rather than the forefront.
Jennifer Lopez’s Movie Finds Solace in Netflix Numbers as Critics Slam It
In a recent interview with Netflix, Jennifer Lopez discussed her character in the recent film Atlas. She portrays a data analyst who harbors a profound skepticism of artificial intelligence. In the film, the character finds herself embarking on a mission to capture a rogue robot.
However, as circumstances take unexpected turns, her sole chance of safeguarding humanity’s future from AI lies in placing her trust in it. She explained,
Atlas is someone who has basically shut out the world around her, She doesn’t trust anybody and doesn’t want anything to do with AI. I loved that this is a big sci-fi action movie, but at its core, it’s a story of friendship — and a love story, in a way, I always see everything as a love story, but this is a different kind of love between two beings who connect in disastrous circumstances, and teach each other how to be more human.

Jennifer Lopez's "Atlas" is the kind of Netflix trash that you keep in the background while you're doing some house chores, just to remind yourself that there are worse things in life than folding a fucking towel. pic.twitter.com/flBWW7ItTg

It appears @netflix is now competing with itself for the Shittiest Film of 2024: Netflix’s latest release #Atlas (🌟) is dumber than you could imagine & features Jennifer Lopez & @SimuLiu at their absolute worst. #Atlas fails to stand out or captivate, even with its emotional touch towards the end. The “interesting” concept quickly becomes generic and inevitably goes nowhere. Apologies in advance for a rather over-the-top review… Find it here:https://t.co/zfq2SS1QLI pic.twitter.com/yF2OG7HXiy

Despite the divided reactions, one thing is certain, Jennifer Lopez’s talent shines through, along with the performances of Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Mark Strong, Abraham Popoola, and Lana Parrilla. Despite having a packed house of talent, the film failed to surprise the viewers.
Atlas is now streaming on Netflix.
