Jennifer Lopez’s recent films in her career have failed to impress fans, with many complaining about the mediocrity of the films she is participating in. Although her performances in her recent films Shotgun Wedding, and The Mother were praised, the films were considered cliche and derivative. Her latest film Atlas may be the weakest film in recent years.

The film has received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics, with a meager score on Rotten Tomatoes. But it is still far from being her worst as fans will be surprised to know that one of her films with her husband Ben Affleck holds the record for the worst film of her career.

Jennifer Lopez is back with her sci-fi film on Netflix titled Atlas. The film which also stars Sterling K. Brown, Simu Liu, and Mark Strong released on the streamer yesterday to poor reviews, continuing Netflix’s frustrating trend of churning out ‘content’ instead of trying to make their films good. Like her previous Netflix film The Mother, the film is derivative despite Lopez’s committed performance.

As many critics have pointed out in their reviews, the film does not add anything to the sci-fi genre (via The New York Post) and rather chooses to recycle familiar and conventional story elements (via Empire). The film currently has an 18% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of her worst-reviewed films including The Wedding Planner (17%), Monster-in-Law (18%), The Back-up Plan (17%), The Boy Next Door (12%) (via Movieweb).

However, her worst film to date is the romantic crime film Gigli where she starred alongside her husband Ben Affleck in 2003. The film failed to live up to its expectations and it did not impress fans. The film stands at a shocking 6% on Rotten Tomatoes and was also a flop at the box office, grossing only $7 million against a $75 million production budget (via The Numbers).

Lopez’s The Mother became a hit on the streamer despite mixed reviews (via Deadline) and one hopes that the same happens for Atlas. However, with fans and critics not loving her recent works, it is high time for the actress to return to doing films like Selena and Out of Sight, where everyone would fall in love with her all over again.

Jennifer Lopez is currently starring in the sci-fi film Atlas. The actress plays a data analyst who does not like AI and robots but is forced to trust and work together with one another to save the future of humankind. This unlikely bond and the emotional story that the film had compelled Lopez to do the film.

In an interview with Space.com, Lopez stated that the cooperative dynamic of a human and an AI felt very timely in the current landscape where there is a fear against the use of AI. The film’s journey of two entities working together to do something good instantly drew her to the film. The actress said,

At the core of it, there was a really emotional story about two entities, a person and an AI, who become more human together, where they go on this journey and she has to learn how to trust…Not just the understanding that the AI technology can be good as well, which is kind of the debate today. It’s very timely and relevant right now. It’s the human story about Atlas that made me want to do it.

The film also stars Sterling K. Brown, Simu Liu, and Mark Strong. Lopez will next star in the biographical sports drama Unstoppable, which chronicles the life and career of American wrestler Anthony Robles. She will also play the lead role in the upcoming musical drama film Kiss of the Spider Woman directed by Bill Condon.
