2010 was an ambitious year for Jeremy Renner, as Hollywood had great plans for the actor. Willing to launch him as the new blockbuster leading man, Renner was being eyed for roles in Avengers, and Jason Bourne movies, and was also sought for the role of Jackson Lamb in J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 (2011).
But, while Jeremy Renner landed his impressive roles in Avengers and Jason Bourne movies, he seemingly ditched J.J. Abrams’ $260M film. Instead, after meeting Abrams, Renner received the grand opportunity to emerge as a new protagonist of the Mission: Impossible movies, alongside Tom Cruise.

Jeremy Renner Was Sought to Appear in J.J. Abrams’ Super 8
Legendary filmmakers J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg once teamed up for the nostalgic alien monster movie, Super 8 (2011). And undoubtedly with Spielberg’s vision and Abrams’ dedication, the film turned into an acclaimed project and got added to the list of classics.
The collaboration certainly turned the project into a memorable movie. But more than anything, the casting was done perfectly. Speaking of casting, the adult cast of Super 8, Kyle Chandler played by Jackson Lamb, initially went to Jeremy Renner. According to the actor, he was the preferred choice of J.J. Abrams.
Although Jeremy Renner was sought to play the lead role, he never accepted the opportunity. Apparently, during an interview with Vanity Fair, the actor mentioned how he went to meet J.J. Abrams for Super 8 but instead got to know about Tom Cruise and Brad Bird’s interest in him. Thus, ditching Abrams, Renner went to accept the opportunity to appear alongside Cruise.
Jeremy Renner Ditched J.J. Abrams For Mission: Impossible
Jeremy Renner‘s meeting with J.J. Abrams turned into another opportunity, as he later joined the director to meet Tom Cruise for one of his Mission: Impossible movies. Finding the opportunity to appear alongside Cruise more fulfilling than playing the role of Kyle Chandler in Abrams’ $260M film, Renner joined Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
Taking up the role of William Brandt as a potential new leading man, Jeremy Renner appeared alongside Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. Without a doubt, Renner’s newly introduced character quickly won over the fans and made them believe that he might have a prominent role in the franchise. But surprisingly Renner’s character disappeared in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
Fans were truly upset with the sudden removal of Jeremy Renner from the franchise after such character development. But unfortunately, the actor got busy with his MCU work. Making his debut as Hawkeye in Thor (2011) Renner’s involvement with Marvel grew stronger day by day. Leading him to quite several projects for the sake of his superhero role.
But certainly 2010 onwards Jeremy Renner made his prominent position in the entertainment industry and soon turned into a global icon.
