Jeremy Renner has worked hard for some iconic movies in the early 2010s but his most iconic role was that of Hawkeye in the MCU. Portraying the superhero gave Renner his fame but it also kind of pigeon-holed him into a certain character.

When notable series creator Taylor Sheridan came up with a new series titled Mayor of Kingstown, Renner was considered for the lead role. The actor, however, revealed that he didn’t even read that much of the script and immediately said yes to Sheridan!

When Jeremy Renner Felt Pigeon-holed!

Starring in the role of Hawkeye ever since Thor back in 2011, Renner found worldwide fame for being a part of the MCU (which was building at that time). As the years went on by, fans only remembered Renner as the actor who portrayed the role of Clint Barton.

Appearing in several of the MCU movies and later, the MCU show Hawkeye, Renner never publicly acknowledged the fact, but it seems that the actor was starting to feel pigeonholed. In an interview with Maxim, here’s what Renner said about his life back in 2015.

“They’re celebrating my life, which is great. The message is ‘None of us should be pigeonholed or identified by any single thing we do. Everything we do should be celebrated.’ I thought this was a beautiful concept, one that seemed to fit into my life.”

Hence, when Taylor Sheridan came up with a brilliant script about jails and power struggles, Jeremy Renner did not think too much before agreeing to star in the series. And that’s exactly what happened as the Hawkeye star revealed in a separate interview that this was indeed a real story!

Jeremy Renner Agreed To Mayor of Kingstown Without Reading A Single Word!

It was back in 2017 when Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen starred in a film titled Wind River. Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan, Renner, and the Yellowstone creator met and became good friends. In an interview with Collider, Jeremy Renner revealed that he agreed to star in Mayor of Kingstown because he considered Sheridan a good friend!

“It’s getting enough information about what the story is. When we’re diving into, he spells it out for you very fast and paints the world. I already know his writing so well. I know him as a friend, and we’ve worked together.”

He further continued,

“I said yes without reading one word, trusting that I knew an idea or a fraction of what it was gonna be like. He’s exceeded my expectations about what it is and will be.”

And trusting Sheridan became one of the best choices that Jeremy Renner has ever made. Mayor of Kingstown has already two seasons to its name and is rumored to be developing a third season. The 2021 series currently stands at a rating of 8.2/10 on IMDB and a whopping 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Mayor of Kingstown is available to stream on Paramount+ Apple TV in the U.S.
