Arnold Schwarzenegger has achieved many things in his life, from ruling the world of bodybuilding to the big screens in Hollywood. He started his acting career with the 1970 film Hercules in New York and received one of the most notable roles of his career in James Cameron’s 1984 film The Terminator. He continued to reprise his role in the franchise and was last seen in the 2019 film Terminator: Dark Fate. The 75-year-old actor shared his life and career journey in a three-part Netflix documentary.

The documentary also reminisces on his time working on the Terminator franchise. And the director of the first two films in the series revealed that Schwarzenegger did not like the script of the sequel to the 1984 film, Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Did Not Like the Terminator Sequel

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Netflix documentary, “Arnold,” briefly explores the Terminator era of his career. And the director of The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day, James Cameron, revealed that the star of the film was not satisfied with the sequel’s script.

In the documentary, Cameron recalled that the True Lies star was not his “cheerful self” when they met to discuss the script of the sequel. And he assumed that there might be something he did not like in the script, so he asked him the same. And Schwarzenegger said that he was not happy as his character did not kill anyone in the film.

“Arnold and I were going to meet and talk about the script. So I sit down and I can see he’s not his usual cheerful self. I go, ‘What’s the matter? You don’t like it?’ He goes, ‘Jim… I don’t kill anybody.'”

The Avatar director shared that initially, Schwarzenegger was totally against the idea. And he had to explain that the dynamic between his and Edward Furlong’s character changed in the sequel, making him his protector in the sequel. However, he was still looking for some action and convinced the director to shoot them in the leg.

Arnold Schwarzenegger on T-800’S Progression

Arnold Schwarzenegger portrayed a cybernetic android sent back in time to assassinate the mother of the future Resistance leader Sarah Connor in the first Terminator film. After failing his mission in the first film, a reprogrammed T-800 is sent back in time by resistance to protect their future leader.

He talked about how his character developed from being an evil killing machine to being the protector of John and Sarah Connor. Although he did not like the idea of changing his character’s primary goal in the sequel, he did admit that the films cannot follow the same storyline for every other sequel.

“Whenever you do a sequel, you cannot just do the same story,” he said before adding, “In ‘Terminator 1,’ I was this evil machine that just destroyed anyone and everyone who came in my path. And in the second one, I say, ‘I swear I will not kill anyone.”
