While many fans are already aware of the series’ ending, particularly Hermione Granger ending up with Ron Weasley, one cannot ignore but feel the chemistry that she had with the titular character. And it looks like the author realized her mistake, late but eventually!

Many fans often paired up Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) throughout its run, clinging to a slight hope that they would end up living happily ever after but we all know that it just didn’t happen.

But, the author had second thoughts about how she ended Granger’s romantic fate. She shared via The Time,

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. “That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

The author went on to issue a sincere apology to Potterheads who weren’t able to witness the outcome of shipping the titular character with the bookish girl

“I know, I’m sorry. I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

The epilogue to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows shows the Boy Who Lived marrying Ron Weasley’s sister, Ginny Weasley. While the titular hero doesn’t end up with his female bestie, the franchise seemingly teased the possibility numerous times that could have been used to change the outcome.

With the author already regretting how she changed Potter’s fate with Granger, the franchise seemingly teased their romantic conclusion. Despite their relationship being portrayed as platonic friends, they have been to each other’s side, whenever in need.

Starting with their similar muggle background, which made the characters relatable to one another, unlike Weasley who was unaware of how it felt to be in a magical world for the first time.

Another important aspect is their loyalty to one another as our female protagonist never left the titular character alone, and at times, talked some sense into him.

Despite being great friends, the duo often left everyone wondering about their relationship, even Dumbledore. That was best shown when Granger’s destined husband felt jealous of his male bestie, which was evident when he felt concerned about whether the duo had mutual interests in one another.

They often relied on one another, which is also the reason they often shared big moments in the movies. Even their on-screen dance could have been romanticized had the pair ended up together.
