Joker is the clown prince of crime in the DC universe and Batman’s most deadly rival, but the villain is getting more traction given the character’s recent outing by Joaquin Phoenix. The actor’s endearing performance has shed some new light and added a new layer of depth to the villain.
Often viewed as mentally unstable and insane, many were intrigued by the prospect of having an unhinged villain, and one fan utilized the power of Unreal Engine 5 and showcased both the capabilities of the engine and how the character could fit in a world like GTA 6.
Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Demo Powered by Unreal Engine 5
Ever since people got their hands on Unreal Engine 5, countless demos and concepts have been fully recognized. The idea of a game based on Joker with the same open-world mechanics as what can be seen in GTA 6 is now a possibility thanks to the talent of the group known as TeaserPlay.
The TeaserPlay team has reimagined the 2019 Joker movie as an open-world video game prototype powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Although it is only a demo, it has garnered significant attention from the gaming community, which is now clamoring for a full game release. Epic Games accomplished something monumental when the engine was polished and gave access to talented developers. Perhaps seeing this demo, DC can redeem itself after previous embarrassing attempts at gaming with Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The film’s success, coupled with the anticipation of its sequel releasing later this year, suggests it would be strategic for DC and Warner Bros. to capitalize on the excitement across various formats, like video games. In recent years, the company had no solid plan or even a road map that led to the downfall of the DCEU. This could be the silver lining and use the same formula as GTA.
A GTA-Inspired Game Could Be the Right Move for DC
The first Joker film resonated well with fans and even made history by being the first R-rated movie to reach the $1 billion mark at the box office. It is clear that the general audience is now more accepting of mature themes and stories in films, which have been in gaming with the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Combining these two ideas can be a potent mix for a successful game.
The demo is brief and recreates the iconic shots of the film, like the clown prince descending the stairs in full makeup and even the set of the film’s finale, which takes place in a talk show studio. There is no limit to what the engine can do, it is only the imagination of the ones who are making use of it.
While Grand Theft Auto 6 is still a year away and in no way ready for release, the Joker demo is complete, awaiting only DC’s approval to become a fully developed game. Recent leaks also indicate the former could be delayed even later than expected, but there is nothing to worry about because it is common in game development to meet unrealistic dates.
