Helldivers 2’s ongoing in-game planetary wars and missions may keep players busy, and Johan Pilestedt keeps a watchful eye over things. But some players are simply struggling to even get the game to work efficiently with specialized input. Such is the case with Steven Spohn, creator of AbleGamers Charity.
Steven has been having issues with Helldivers 2’s controller input, and this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the devs. Johan Pilestedt made it a point to address the problem at its very core, and soon, the game will likely have accessibility support that enables a wider range of controller support.
Helldivers 2 needs more accessibility options, and Johan Pilestedt has acknowledged this
Steven Spohn is a popular persona in the gaming community and suffers from SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). This restricts his muscles from functioning normally, something that may cause a hindrance when playing some of his favorite video games.
In a recent tweet, Steven explained how he uses an infrared hat to relay certain movements that should directly translate into the game. In order to have a smoother gaming experience, he also has a dictation program that lets his voice act as an input for games.
I will look into this. But I need to know what software you use. Also @ArrowheadGS and @helldivers

Unfortunately, Helldivers 2 doesn’t support this version of controller input, and Johan Pilestedt has been mindful of this. His response to the tweet alone proves that the team at Arrowhead Game Studios is quite aware of the player’s experience and quality of life.
It’s likely that the game will soon receive a range of updates that improve the accessibility options and be more inclusive of players from different ecosystems.
The dev team’s transparency is an important part of the overall experience
The game’s live-service model isn’t just limited to its gameplay and seasonal updates. It goes beyond the gaming experience itself. Since day one, the developers have been quite transparent and vocal about their intentions with the game, and Johan Pilestedt takes the spotlight here.
Moreover, it enriches the player’s experience in a way that marks a healthy relationship between the creative team and what the players can expect from the game going forward. Whether it’s a roadmap for the game, or letting the community know that there are quality-of-life changes on the way.
