Johnny Depp is laying low and enjoying his life after the long-drawn legal battle with Amber Heard. Even though he won, it was brutal on him. But he didn’t let it impact his enthusiasm for making films. He’s already starring in Jeanne du Barry, but fans want him to return to the big screen with a mega-franchise like the Pirates of the Caribbean.

The franchise has racked up a massive $4.5 billion box office globally, and it can climb a lot higher if the Jack Sparrow actor brings his charm again. After all, Depp certainly knows how to play the character because he has played Sparrow in five films till now. In fact, the first time he got the role, he researched and decided to base his fictional pirate on 18th-century real-life ones.

“I started thinking about pirates in the 18th century. How they were kind of the rock and roll stars of that era. And I thought who is the coolest rock and roll character of all time, for me it’s Keith Richards. So I took that inspiration. It wasn’t a character study or imitation or anything like that. But a memory of how he is, how he behaves, there’s grace, elegance, and wisdom that I admire.”

These weren’t the only two places he drew his inspiration for the character. The actor stated that a cartoon skunk with blinders helped him figure out Jack Sparrow. He said:

“Then there was a cartoon character I loved very much named Pepé Le Pew- a skunk who had blinders on and saw only his own reality. He never saw the horrors around him, he didn’t care.”

The actor stated that in the end, he saw Jack Sparrow as an organism who could change himself to fit any situation and then benefit himself.
