Out of all the things that Johnny Depp is known for, his love life is one of the most crucial parts. His long series of relationships and marriages summed up to wide controversy attached to the Pirates of the Caribbean star. One of his most popular loves was Vanessa Paradis with whom he was together for a long period of 14 years.
According to reports, the relationship started after Johnny Depp felt an instant feeling for the French singer and model after just looking at her back. However, Vanessa Paradis maintained a good association with the actor even after their break up and also came to defend him during the widely publicised legal drama against his former wife Amber Heard.
How did Johnny Depp fall in love with Vanessa Paradis?
It was in an interview with Reuters in 2010 that Johnny Depp spoke about his first encounter with then-partner Vanessa Paradis. If the words of the Jack Sparrow fame are believed, then the Fading Gigolo actress’ neck and back were enough to make him madly fall in love.
The duo met for the first time in Paris in 1998 when the actor felt love at first sight once again. Earlier he had the same feeling when he met with the actress Winona Ryder and was also involved in a famous relationship with her. Depp felt it as soon as he looked at Vanessa Paradis’ back and neck. He told Reuters that:
“I certainly believe in an instant and profound connection with someone, which is what happened to me. I had an instant connection with Vanessa’s back and neck … I was fascinated with this neck and she turned, looked straight at me and wandered across the room and I thought: ‘you’re done, you’re up sh*t creek.’”
It is reported that the feeling of love was so strong in Johnny Depp that he couldn’t stand his decision to live a single life after ending his relationship with Kate Moss in the same year. Moreover, a look at his love life has always been quite active without significant periods of singledom.

But the fans were both surprised and filled with respect when Vanessa Paradis came forward to publicly support Johnny Depp in his hard times even after having such a history.
Vanessa Paradis didn’t shy away from defending her former partner
Vanessa Paradis was in a relationship with the Edward Scissorhands actor from 1998 to 2012. It was after Johnny Depp met with Amber Heard on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009 that the equation changed. Tim Burton’s favorite actor confessed to having felt something for his co-star in an intimate scene that he shouldn’t have and it marked the first step towards the falling apart of Paradis and Depp’s relationship.
“There was a scene where I’m taking a shower, and then she comes into the room. She comes into the room, opens the shower, and we kiss. It felt like something that I shouldn’t be feeling because she had her wife, and I had Vanessa.”
It soon led to the actor’s separation from the Award-winning singer. The duo also had two children including The Idol actress Lily-Rose Depp. But Johnny Depp’s marriage with Amber Heard in 2015 also didn’t end on a fruitful note after the actress accused her former husband of domestic violence.
Following that, the two of them also collided in a libel trial and a defamation trial. During the libel trial against The Sun’s publishers which called Depp a “wife beater”, Vanessa Paradis defended the 60-year-old actor. She stated that the allegations were simply outrageous and distressing. It was nothing like the Johnny Depp she knew and she didn’t believe in any of the accusations.
“I am aware of the allegations which Amber Heard has publicly accused Johnny of for more than four years now. This is nothing like the true Johnny I have known, and from my personal experience of many years, I can say he was never violent or abusive to me.”
Winona Ryder also spoke for the actor during the libel trial but ultimately he lost it. However, tables were turned when once again the former couple was spotted in a highly publicised defamation trial against Heard for an op-ed in The Washington Post. The historic trial ended in Depp’s favour and Heard not only faced intense backlash but the legal drama also cost her the fame she achieved over the years.
