While we do not doubt that Luca Guadagnino is going to hit a home run once again with After the Hunt, several sources have something to say that makes us even more confident in the filmmaker’s upcoming art. According to those who had the privilege of reading the script of After the Hunt, the film could have some similarities with a critically acclaimed film starring Cate Blanchett – Tár.

It has recently been announced that Julia Roberts will be starring in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller, After the Hunt. Roberts will be seen playing a college professor caught in the middle of a crossroad.

The film’s script is written by first-time screenwriter Nora Garrett. She will also serve as the film’s executive along with Karen Lunder, Imagine Entertainment. As for the story, Robert’s character “finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues.”

Now, while the plot sounds quite interesting on its own, some sources have had something incredible to say about the film’s script. As per film reporter Justin Kroll, “several sources who have read the scripts said it reminded them of TAR set in the world of academia.”

If you have seen Tár, you’ll agree that this statement is nothing short of a compliment. Given the fact that the 2022 psychological drama by Todd Field was nominated for six Oscars last year, we can’t help but wonder if Guadagnino and Roberts are in for a treat at the future Academy Awards.

If After the Hunt manages to exceed the hype of Tár, it might be possible that Roberts will finally get to take home her second Oscar after winning one all the way back in 2001 for Erin Brockovich.

Tár Was a Masterpiece in the Eyes of the Critics

Tár followed the story of conductor Lydia Tár played by Cate Blanchett, who was forced to face accusations of misconduct. Clearly, we can already see some similarities between Tár and After the Hunt and this may prove to be a good thing for the upcoming thriller.

Not only did Tár receive 6 Oscar nominations, including Best Director and Best Actress, but the film was also named the Best Film of the Year by many critics including Vanity Fair.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Field’s film has an extremely high rating of 91% with the consensus calling Blanchett’s performance “note-perfect.” Unfortunately, Tár could not obtain a win at the box office as the film only made a little over $29 million at the worldwide box office. But hey, you can’t always put a price on art, can you?

If After the Hunt really does follow in the footsteps of Tár, Guadagnino might be looking at adding yet another masterpiece to his collection.
