Matt Damon as Jason Bourne is awesome with his easy, good looks. Damon played the character in the 2002 movie The Bourne Identity. The actor then reprised the role in two other movies: The Bourne Supremacy in 2004 and The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007.
Jason Bourne’s fourth installment came in 2012 with The Bourne Legacy. But Damon didn’t return to the film because Paul Greengrass stepped down as director. It is the only film in the franchise with no titular character. The Bourne franchise’s trajectory has been unclear since 2016 with the fifth Bourne movie, Jason Bourne.
The franchise’s producer reportedly wanted to restart the series back in 2020, but there were still doubts about the possibility of a sixth installment. Now, after a seven-year hiatus, looks like the franchise will revive with Matt Damon appearing as the main character.
Is Jason Bourne‘s Sixth Installment in the Works?
The Bourne movies have faced challenges since they started continuing the series with the long development process and shift in the director and leading actor.
But now sources told Deadline that Universal Pictures is looking to revive the Jason Bourne franchise, with Edward Berger in negotiations to direct the picture.
After his World War 1 epic All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) won an Oscar for Best International Feature Film with three others, director Berger is stealing all the limelight to direct this century’s biggest action hero franchise.
Besides the director’s involvement, insiders also added that Matt Damon would be the one who will be approached first to return to the iconic titular role. There could not be any other good news than seeing Damon in the upcoming Bourne movie. But fans have mixed reactions over his involvement.
Mixed Fan Reactions to Rumors of Matt Damon’s Return in Next Jason Bourne Movie
With the rumors of the revival of the sixth installment of Jason Bourne’s movie, fans have already started to express their views. While there are mixed reviews on the rumor, some fans believe that continuing the Bourne franchise—especially with an aging Matt Damon—is merely a cash grab and lacks originality.
The Bourne franchise was good, but this is just another example of cash grab. The films were done, and Mstt Damon is old.
Get over it and create a new and interesting IP.

Though some fans suggest that the industry should avoid relying on established franchises and create new, innovative intellectual properties (IPs), others said that they are still open to watching Matt Damon in the new Bourne film.
I mean…he's not THAT old🧐. As long as the script and the co-stars are good – like the previous ones – I'd say go for it👍

Incorrect! The last Bourne movie was awesome. This is the best set of action movies behind John Wick.

If fans want to see Damon in the upcoming installment of Bourne is totally a subjective matter. But it’s for sure that the sixth Jason Bourne movie is ready to thrive.
According to insiders who are close to the project, there is no script at that time, and the film is only in the early development stage. That said, the potential involvement of Berger due to his success of All Quiet‘s big night at the Oscars is in high demand. So, if a deal closes, Berger would definitely be a super fit to direct this installment.
