New updates are set to arrive soon for PlayStation users, bringing long-awaited features that fans have been eagerly anticipating. These changes aim to enhance the multiplayer gaming experience, making it easier for players to communicate with their friends seamlessly.
However, while this update offers significant improvements, many feel it’s an overdue step to match what Xbox has offered for years and is still inferior to the version available on PC. The end of needing a phone to connect to Discord is a welcome change, but Sony fans still hope these updates will finally close the gap between the two major gaming platforms.
PlayStation Users Still Can’t Share Their Screens
Sony has announced a new feature allowing PlayStation users to join voice chats directly from their consoles. This feature will be rolled out gradually, starting in Japan/Asia, followed by Europe, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East, and finally, the Americas. This staggered release aims to ensure a smooth transition and address potential issues.
Despite this improvement, PlayStation users still face significant limitations compared to other users. While the new feature eliminates the need for a mobile device to join Discord voice chats, it does not include the ability to share screens. Microsoft users have enjoyed this capability since last year, allowing them to share gameplay and other content seamlessly. PS5’s omission of this feature means users still experience a less integrated and comprehensive service.
Screen sharing is highly valued for enhancing gaming and social interaction between players. Its absence puts users at a disadvantage, maintaining a gap between the experiences on different platforms.
As this new voice chat feature rolls out, it is essential to recognize that while progress is being made, it is still incomplete. Users will appreciate not needing their phones for voice chats, but the inability to share screens remains a significant shortfall. Sony needs to address this to offer a competitive and comprehensive communication solution for its users.
New Updates Are Also On The Way
In addition to the voice chat integration and last month’s update to improve multiplayer, a new feature called Profile Share is being introduced. This allows users to share their PlayStation Network profiles on various messaging and social apps. To use this feature, users will select “Share Profile” from the PlayStation App or the PS5 console, generating a shareable link or QR code.
When recipients open this link or scan the QR code, they can view the profile and add the user as a friend, provided they are signed into the network. This feature aims to make it easier for players to connect and expand their gaming networks. The ability to share profiles seamlessly across platforms is a welcome addition, enhancing social connectivity.
The Profile Share feature will roll out next week, coinciding with the broader update. This new capability aligns with Sony’s goal of making it easier for players to find and connect with friends. As social features continue to be enhanced, users can look forward to a more integrated and user-friendly experience.
With these updates, steps are being taken to bridge the gap between different gaming platforms. However, significant work remains to be done. Do you prefer using Discord on your console or your phone? Share your comment below!
