The show has been entitled Dexter: Original Sin, which was set in 1991 around 15 years before the events in the original television series. While many fans are excited about this, some were not happy with Gibson’s casting.

What is Dexter: Original Sin Going To Be About?

In the original Dexter series, Michael C. Hall portrayed Dexter while his adoptive father was played by James Remar, and his sister Debra was brought to life by Jennifer Carpenter.

Clyde Phillips returns as the showrunner and executive producer for the prequel series which is said to have ten episodes. The show’s logline reads via Variety:

Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness.

As the first half of the synopsis suggests, the story goes back to Dexter’s early days as a transitioning serial killer. The prequel will show how it all started.

With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

The Dexter series had a great reputation in the beginning until its finale seemingly disappointed many fans. Showtime revived the franchise with a sequel, New Blood, to help repair the damage.

The showrunner previously said that there’s a lot he wants to explore but he doesn’t have the permission yet. Once he gets the go signal, he would drop everything to grab the opportunity.

Now that the prequel is happening, fans don’t seem to be thrilled with the news of Michael C. Hall’s recasting. In fact, some of the netizens have suggestions on how to bring the actor back into the fold.

It’s already telling how fans aren’t exactly pleased with the news of a Dexter prequel, or to see another actor portraying the titular character.

Regardless of the fans’ reaction, the studio is quite adamant about expanding the franchise. Both the sequel and the upcoming prequel are part of Paramount’s tactic to broaden and build more following around their popular and well-loved properties.

Dexter is available to watch on Showtime and Amazon Prime.
