The Humble Beginnings of Angela Lansbury

Angela Brigid Lansbury was born in London in 1925. She arrived in New York in August 1940 with her twin brothers and their widowed mother. Angela studied drama for two years after which the family moved to Los Angeles. Her widowed mother was on tour at the time, hence it was left to young Angela to carry forward all the moving and shifting from one city to another. She had to act as someone double her age as the brothers and family need her to.

Speaking in an interview the late actress talked about her tough childhood and how she overcame it with her focus solely on nurturing herself into an actress. She also spoke about how all of this made her fall short in other aspects of life such as the inability of confessing her feelings towards the other gender when she caught one.

The actor said,“I had no adolescence, And I was too busy preparing to become an actress. It never occurred to me not to go on, not for one second. Nor did I think I was missing anything. I’d get crushes on boys, but I didn’t know how to reveal it to them.”

Angela Lansbury talked about being a celebrity as a conditional circumstance and should be kept for the public eye only. She was one of those rare stars who took acting as a job.

Angela said,“I don’t go to premieres these days, but if I did, I would know what’s expected. You go through motions for a show or any event where you are being lauded for what you do, not who you are. So to a degree, you play that role.”

Nevertheless, Angela Lansbury will be remembered as a testament to budding actors and especially women that your circumstances do not determine where you land in life, your work does.
