When full-length films are being made, it is quite natural for production teams to leave certain scenes behind and not add them to the final cut of the film. While the majority of the time they act as little easter eggs for fans to find after watching the film, sometimes leaving these scenes whether it be a funny interaction between characters, more attention on a sub-point, or even key character development, out of their movie can be a very big mistake that makes the fans extremely upset, which is something they are more than happy to let them know.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is an extremely controversial film amongst fans of the Star Wars franchise, however, the film also saw a scene that could have been groundbreaking for not only the fans but Luke and Rey Skywalker as well. At the same time, he tried to make Rey understand the traditional rules and regulations the Jedi follow and how Rebels look outside of them. Luke comes to understand what legacy the Jedi have and whether or not they are important factors in the galaxy, to begin with. The scene could have shown Luke working on his own interpretation of how things are going while training Rey at the same time.

What Was This Scene Cut From Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

Being this important of a scene, the first question that arises is why did this scene not appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The director of the film, Rian Johnson, explained that although he loved the scene, stating that he loved everything about the scene when it stood on its own, however, the problem came when this was put alongside the rest of the film.

“Taken on its own, I love everything in here. But first of all pacing-wise, there was always something about it that kind of stuck and it just felt like at this point in the movie […] you just wanted to move past it,” said Johnson. He added that cutting it makes the film work “just as well in a different way.”

Johnson stated that the tone of the scene did not match where it was placed in the movie in terms of its pacing of the story. The director went on to say that the scene was placed at a point in the film that would make the audiences want to move past it rather than cherish and appreciate it.
