Actor Keanu Reeves is one of the most recognized stars in the world due to his image as an action star in films like The Matrix, Speed, and the John Wick franchise. However, the Internet soon learned that the actor’s off-screen persona was even more loveable. He is constantly appreciated for his kind gestures and has even been lauded by co-stars such as Sandra Bullock.

On the list of his admirers, is his Constantine co-star Rachel Weisz. The Mummy star expressed in an interview with IGN her admiration towards Keanu Reeves and his persona. The two had already worked once on the sci-fi thriller Chain Reaction. She said,

“He’s a sweetheart…He’s pretty much the same guy, you know, post-Matrix. He didn’t seem affected by the global, stratospheric success that he had. He’s a very down-to-earth kind of guy. I don’t think he even changed at all…He’s just very mysterious, and it’s not a put-on…He’s just got something very enigmatic about him.”

Weisz and Reeves seemed to have gotten along well during the film as she had to trust him for a pivotal scene in the film which required her to drown in a bathtub. The actress had to remain underwater for a minute and a half while Reeves had to put her in the tub. The two reportedly had a safe signal in case things went awry. She said,

“The director said that he wanted Keanu not to go easy on me, for it to look real. So he was really holding me down…The safe signal was something like, ‘Pat me three times on the arm’. I was thrashing around so much that he couldn’t tell…There was a moment there in which I was really not acting anymore. I was just trying to get out of the bath, but Keanu’s a sensitive guy and we were pretty in-tune, so you know when somebody’s had enough.”

While they got to share quite a few moments in the film, Weisz mentioned that she hoped that there was a kissing scene between her and Reeves.

Director Francis Lawrence’s supernatural thriller film Constantine follows the story of Rachel Weisz’s Angela, an LAPD detective who investigates the death of her twin sister Isabel and seeks out the assistance of Keanu Reeves’ Constantine. The director reportedly did not want to fall for the commercial requirement of a love story in an otherwise dark film and hence decided against a romantic angle between the leads.

The decision seemed to have disappointed Weisz as she hoped that they would share a kiss in a pivotal scene where the two are on a rooftop. She revealed,

“I thought that finally I was going to get kissed, but it was not to be…No, we didn’t [shoot a kiss scene]. Because we thought if we did, they would use it. You know, someone would get their hands on it, so we made sure, we didn’t want there to be a kiss…”

The film was a moderate success at the box office, earning over $230 million against a $100 million budget. A sequel was said to be in development with Keanu Reeves returning.
