Surprisingly, Keanu Reeves revealed that he watched anime to prepare for The Matrix.

In an interview at the SDCC to adapt his BRZRKR comic book into an anime series with a live-action movie, Keanu Reeves said that the Wachowski siblings told him to watch Akira and Ghost in the Shell to prepare for his role in the movie, which was a commercial success.

The Wachowski brothers told Keanu Reeves to watch anime

A character is inspired by several things ranging from real-life personalities to historical figures, comic books, and even anime. Anime and manga are some of the most popular genres in the world, and often, creators take inspiration from them.

The Matrix is one of the best movies of all time, and to nail his performance, the Wachowski siblings instructed Keanu Reeves to watch the anime series Akira and Ghost in the Shell better to understand the concept of the movie and its characters.

In an interview at the San Diego Comic-Con panel, he was promoting his new comic BRZRKR, which was going to be animated, which he has written alongside Matt Kindt and drawn by Ron Garner.

He said:

“When I worked with the Wachowskis on the Matrix they were like ‘you need to watch these’ – it was like Akira, Ghost In The Shell – and that was pretty much the start of it,” he told convention attendees.

Akira and Ghost in the Shell has an excellent storyline and unique characters, and the series is all read by many people due to its complicated yet exciting storyline.

Keanu Reeve has become a huge anime fan and has even gone on to make his own comics titled BRZRKR, which he has written alongside Matt Kindt, and Ron Garner illustrates the series.
