Popularly known for starring in the TV series Frasier, Kelsey Grammer is now making waves with his MCU debut as Beast. The actor caught the attention of Marvel enthusiasts with his brief appearance in the post-credit scene of Brie Larson’s latest feature, The Marvels. Fans have been eager to see the X-Men in the franchise since Ryan Reynolds revealed that Hugh Jackman would be reprising his role as Wolverine in the Deadpool threequel, which is expected to be set in the MCU.
While he got the opportunity to reprise his role in the 2023 film, the 68-year-old actor also expressed his strong desire to return as Beast soon after the Deadpool 3 announcement.
Kelsey Grammer Wanted to Reprise His X-Men Role For a While
Kelsey Grammer portrayed the role of Dr. Henry ‘Hank’ McCoy, aka Beast, in the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand, followed by an uncredited cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past. He was finally able to reprise his role in the latest MCU film, The Marvels.
However, the Emmy-winning actor has been looking forward to his return for a while. He has said in his earlier interviews that he would “love to do Beast again.” And the actor shared the thought again while promoting his 2022 film Christmas in Paradise.
During an interview with MovieWeb, the actor stated his bold ultimatum to Disney to bring him back as Beast. “If they don’t ask me to return to the role of Beast, I’ll never go to Disneyland again,” he said before adding, “I’d love for them to do that. I want to do that.”
The actor has clearly been eager to reprise his X-Men role for years. And his cameo in The Marvels has opened the gate for more such opportunities in the future. Grammer has become another X-Men actor to make an MCU appearance after Patrick Stewart in the Doctor Strange sequel and Evan Peters in WandaVision.
What is X-Men’s Future in the MCU?
So far, several X-Men characters have appeared in the MCU, including Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Evan Peters’ Quicksilver, and now Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming film Deadpool 3 is also expected to introduce the recurring characters in the Deadpool film series along with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the MCU.
However, except for Deadpool 3, Marvel Studios has not revealed any official X-Men project so far. Earlier this year, Deadline reported that the studio was allegedly planning to set writer meetings later this fall for pitches on its highly anticipated X-Men movie.
There are assumptions that the mutant superheroes could potentially join The Avengers in Secret Wars. However, nothing is confirmed, and it is also speculated that the X-Men movie would most likely fall under Phase 7 of the superhero franchise.
The Marvels is playing in theatres.
