The Ghoul is, in some ways, the poet Virgil in Dante’s Inferno. He’s the guide, if you will, through this irradiated hellscape that we find ourselves in in this post-apocalyptic world. He is a bounty hunter… he is pragmatic, he is ruthless, he has his own set of moral codes, and he has a wicked sense of humor. Much like me!

Amazon Prime’s Fallout is developed for television by Westworld showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Aside from Goggins, the show also features Ella Purnell and Kyle MacLachlan.

In his interview with Vanity Fair, Nolan shared that the series will tackle relevant political issues despite it being set in a dystopian future devastated by nuclear war.

The games are about the culture of division and haves and have-nots that, unfortunately, have only gotten more and more acute in this country and around the world over the last decades. We get to talk about that in a wonderful, speculative-fiction way.”

Some of Nolan’s notable works aside from Westworld include projects such as The Prestige, The Dark Knight, and Interstellar helmed by his brother, the legendary Christopher Nolan.

Video game designer Todd Howard also spoke with Vanity Fair and revealed that Bethesda Game Studios worked closely with the showrunners to ensure that the tone of the video game will be translated seamlessly into the small screen.

We had a lot of conversations over the style of humor, the level of violence, the style of violence. Look, Fallout can be very dramatic, and dark, and post-apocalyptic, but you need to weave in a little bit of a wink. I think they threaded that needle really well on the TV show.”

Howard also serves as an executive producer of the project. While fans will see Goggins as The Ghoul in the series’ wasteland, there will be ample scenes that will show his character before the irradiation and his former life as a guy named Cooper Howard.
