The collaboration received positive responses.
While some are looking forward to more such team-ups in the future, others have been anticipating to finally see Holland in the role of a more grounded Spider-Man. And new reports suggest that Marvel Studios is inclined towards exploring a more grounded storyline for Holland’s Spider-Man in the next film instead of another multiversal adventure.
Kevin Feige Wants Spider-Man 4 to be a Grounded Story
New reports surrounding Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 suggest disagreements between Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Sony Pictures over the movie’s narrative. In an earlier interview, Kevin Feige confirmed the film is in development, saying, “We have the story. We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.”
However, according to the insider Daniel Richtman, Feige and Holland are inclined towards a more grounded story, emphasizing character development and a focused narrative. In contrast, Sony Pictures is reportedly pushing for the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to explore a larger multiversal spectacle in the next Spider-Man film.
There have been many claims about the unlikely return of Maguire and Garfield in the next installment, as the No Way Home closed hinting at the street-level Spider-Man. The introduction of Daredevil and Kingpin into the MCU has heightened fan anticipation for potential character crossovers and a Spider-Man-Daredevil team-up.
Feige’s approach towards a grounded story would not only cater to audience preference but would also allow character development for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and would allow the studio to avoid unnecessary complexity in the upcoming film, providing a more coherent and engaging experience for viewers.
Will Tobey Maguire And Andrew Garfield Return to the MCU?
While the studio is yet to announce its plan for Spider-Man 4, there have been rumors and discussions about the potential return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the MCU. Both actors have also expressed interest in reprising their roles again.
While the recent reports suggest otherwise, there have been rumors that Kevin Feige has reached out to Garfield to reprise his role in Avengers: Secret Wars. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also suggests to have triggered multiple incursions in the MCU caused by Strange sending cured villains back home in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
This potential narrative twist could set the stage for Phase 6’s Avengers: Secret Wars, posing a significant threat to various Marvel characters. While the possibility of Maguire and Garfield’s appearance in Spider-Man 4 seems unlikely, they are expected to reprise their role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
