The Russo Brothers, Anthony, and Joseph Russo, are undoubtedly one of the most-wanted directors in all galaxies. This makes it a herculean task to convince the Avengers: Endgame directors, for instance, to helm Kevin Feige’s unmade Star Wars movie. Following an ideology of two against the world, the Russo brothers have continued to rule Hollywood, diving into versatile genres.

Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo once met MCU president Kevin Feige for a potential Star Wars movie, being huge Star Wars fans themselves. But again, those early conversations never saw light, as Lucasfilm shelved Feige’s would-be project in April 2023. The Russo Brothers again made headlines after they gave up their favorite director, James Gunn’s DCU film, The Brave and the Bold, teasing a potential collaboration.

Russo Brothers Were Kevin Feige’s Top Pick For Star Wars

Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo, considering their MCU success with two Captain America and Avengers films, could have taken a deep dive into the iconic Star Wars Galaxy, as they were reportedly in “early conversations” for directing Kevin Feige‘s unmade Star Wars movie.

During their appearance on Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett’s podcast Smartless, the Russo Brothers revealed that the two were going to be helped into Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie. Joe Russo stated:

“We love Star Wars. There were early conversations, there were some early conversations with us, Kevin Feige is a huge Star Wars fan, and there were some early conversations about maybe teaming up with Kevin to do Star Wars.”

The reports of Kevin Feige invading his MCU army into the Star Wars Galaxy first emerged in 2019, when former Disney co-chairman, Alan Bergman expressed his thrill to see Marvel Studios head’s interest in “pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling.” While Bergman blessed Feige, with “May the Force be with you”, Lucasfilm shelved Kevin Feige’s plan for that untitled movie in April 2023.

Russo Brothers’ Take On James Gunn’s Batman Movie

As the Russo Brothers continue to dream of making a killer Star Wars movie, the duo once again made headlines by refusing their favorite director, James Gunn‘s upcoming Batman movie. While DCU’s caped crusader, Ben Affleck himself denied directing James Gunn’s new DCU endeavors, it was these brothers, who expressed their desire to work on the project.

During a recent interview with Comicbook, the director-duo, who recently released their spy series, Citadel, expressed their support for “Gunn DCU”. Offering several “iterations of Batman”, Joe Russo conveyed his love for the character. The happiness of DCU fans was short-lived after the two brothers made it clear that they are not currently working on Gunn’s The Brave and the Bold.

While the Extraction producers were thrilled with all the attention surrounding their association with “Gunn DCU”, the duo ended up disappointing both, James Gunn and DCU fans. Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo expressed that they were “tired and just throwing around ideas” for DC characters, and said:

“We are not directing a Batman movie. Usually, we come up with a very entertaining, fringe character. But, you caught us in a moment where we were so tired that we couldn’t think of any funny fringe DC character.”

After James Gunn announced his future DC project, The Brave and The Bold, a fan-made trailer already imagines Jamie Dornan as Gunn’s new Batman for the upcoming Dark Knight reboot. It’s fair to suggest that after their MCU success, especially after both the Avengers movies grossed over $2.798 billion worldwide, the Russo Brothers might want to stick with MCU, of course until a Star Wars miracle happens.
