The Death Row Records co-founder pleaded “no contest” to manslaughter after he was accused of running over two men in Compton, Los Angeles. This occurred after a heated argument on the set of the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.

Suge Knight Accused Dr Dre Of Plotting Murder Against Him

In a phone interview with The Blast, rapper Suge Knight repeatedly claimed that Dr Dre was involved and it was a “murder-for-hire” case:

They also got the paper trail with all the checks and proof of when they talked to the witnesses saying that Dre came to them first and asked the two guys how much it cost to get rid of me. And they said, ‘What you mean by get rid of?’ And they said, ‘Kill him.’

When asked why the rapper chose to take the plea deal instead of going to trial, he responded that there was no choice and the case was hopeless:

So when they gave me an attorney. He seen me two times in eight months and told me he went to the court and said he needed help and other attorneys. And they told him no. He said no way he can do my trial because he really don’t know the case, and he won’t win.”

The case indeed looked very helpless, and Knight added:

So if somebody stacks the deck against you, to the point where they’re not trying to fight for you and let you get the attorneys you wish to have, what can you do?

Fans would remember that Knight previously threatened to sue Dre for $300 million, claiming that the rapper as well as Universal Music and Apple allegedly plotted to have him killed.

Dr Dre’s lawyer stated that the producer never spoke with Knight since their separation in 2016 and that the latter’s camp was only maligning Dre (via NME):

Given that Dre has had zero interaction with Suge since leaving Death Row Records in 1996, we hope that Suge’s lawyer has lots of malicious prosecution insurance.”

Knight was moved to a permanent facility due to his health problems as he has not received proper medical attention in the past years while inside Los Angeles County Jail.

Why Did Dr Dre Want To Kill Suge Knight?

The beef between Suge Knight and Dr Dre has been going on for years and can be traced back to the 90s. Knight struck a lifetime deal with Dre to collect 30% of all the producer’s future entertainment-related earnings. It also meant that he would also get a huge chunk of Dre’s deal with Apple, which bought Beats Electronics for $3 billion in 2014.

This is not the first time Knight accused Dre of trying to get rid of him. In 2014, he was shot seven times at West Hollywood nightclub 1OAK. It was the same night that singer Chris Brown was hosting a party.

He survived the incident but was left with complications. Despite his failing health and a seemingly hopeless case, Knight remains positive that he will one day get out of prison.
