The American ticket-selling company Fandango surveyed 8,000 ticket buyers to gauge their anticipations for movies hitting theaters next year. Lady Gaga was voted the number one performance that audiences are eagerly looking forward to seeing on the big screen in 2024. Following closely behind were Jenna Ortega and Ariana Grande. Both Gaga fans and Grande fans on X rallied in support of their favorite pop idols.
Lady Gaga is set to play Harley Quinn in the sequel to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, while Grande will take on the role of Glinda the Good in the film adaptation of the stage musical Wicked. Jenna Ortega will be featured in the sequel to Beetlejuice.
Lady Gaga Tops Fandango’s Most Anticipated Performances Of 2024 List, Beating Ariana Grande
Lady Gaga was confirmed in the role of Harley Quinn in August 2022, succeeding Margot Robbie. Many fans were excited about this casting, especially after her phenomenal performance in the film, A Star is Born. The set photos released on social media showed Gaga in the Harley Quinn costume, which also added to the hype. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande’s role as Glinda in Wicked was confirmed way back in November 2021. Grande’s set photos also created a buzz among the netizens.

Fans of both pop stars were quick to react to the news. One Gaga fan shared that it was nothing unusual for ‘Godga’ to become the most anticipated. Other fans also joined in cheering for the Bad Romance singer, with one stating that her performances are consistently top-notch.
One Grande fan expressed that while the Dangerous Woman singer deserved the number one spot, he was excited about all three performances. In addition to being featured in the list of most anticipated performances, Lady Gaga also claimed the second spot in the list of most anticipated villains. She surpassed her co-star Joaquin Phoenix in this list, which was topped by Beetlejuice 2’s Michael Keaton.
Fandango’s Most Anticipated Movies of 2024
According to Fandango’s survey, Deadpool 3 is the most anticipated wide-release film of 2024. Fans also look forward to Beetlejuice 2 and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine beats Ryan Reynolds as the most anticipated hero of 2024. Surprisingly, the top genres anticipated by audiences in 2024 are Action / Adventure and Comedy. It also suggests a shift in interest as comic book movies come in third place.
The survey also found that audiences are more interested in the 2024 releases compared to the films in 2023, with 81% of the surveyors agreeing on that fact. Another interesting pattern among the top 10 anticipated wide-release films is that they all belong to a familiar IP rather than being original productions.
Lady Gaga’s Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 4, 2024. Ariana Grande’s Wicked will be released in two parts, with Part One hitting theaters on November 27, 2024, and Part Two following on November 26, 2025.
