Once the success of a great game hits, logically, the studio’s future is to grow bigger, but this process is not always easy, and developers like Swen Vincke know this all too well. Following the remarkable popularity and reputation that Larian Studios achieved with the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, the studio is prepared to embark on the next IP, albeit with a larger team and some modifications, a task that can prove to be challenging.
Swen Vincke, the director of this development studio, has revealed in a recent interview that he is not on board to add new talent; he is fighting with his team to prevent this.
Larian Studios Has the Potential to Keep Making Amazing Games Like Baldur’s Gate 3
Few games have achieved what Baldur’s Gate 3 did after winning every imaginable award that the gaming industry can offer. This role-playing game has elevated the genre to a new level of excellence.
Both fans and critics praised the originality of the title and the well-designed mechanics that make every new journey unique within this IP. After winning the BAFTA for Best Game, this studio has won all five of the industry’s most important awards.
Larian Studios did a fascinating job with this IP. Following the success of games like Divinity: Original Sin and the fantastic support from fans, this GOTY really listened to the community to make the best possible gaming experience.
According to a recent interview, the game director and the studio’s principal leader have just revealed how this team will grow from now on; they are not all on the same page for future projects.
Swen Vincke is not ready to grow yet
The director of Larian Studios, Swen Vincke, has revealed in a recent interview with Games Industry that he is not ready to grow. He said, “The teams have told me in extreme detail why we needed to grow, so there’s that fight going on right now. I’m actually the one that is trying to hold it back.” Vincke is really happy with the current size of this studio; he knows that the team will only grow, but this is a very difficult transition to make.
He really wants to respect the ambitions of his team, but he is also very afraid that things will get out of hand. Vincke added, “And they have legitimate reasons why they want to grow it, because they have ambitions they need to achieve, so we’re trying to keep it sane.” The idea is not to fight or get in conflict with the studio members, so the objective is to reach a common ground and make everyone as happy as possible.
It has already been confirmed that there is another game in development, a new IP that has nothing to do with D&D or roles. With new art, new mechanics, and so on. There are no further details available at this time. Fans can relax knowing that this studio will do an excellent job, as the previous projects have proven. This game is nowhere near being completed, so players will have to wait a significant amount of time.
