Baldur’s Gate 3 took the industry by surprise with a very solid game that took the Game of the Year award. This title, developed by Larian Studios, had an almost fully independent process but a very large budget.
In a recent interview, Swen Vincke, director of the studio, talked about the future of the company and what will come next after this successful project. Vincke stated that the game will be radically different from BG3, bearing almost no resemblance to D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) and unlike anything previously created.

One of the things that gives Larian Studios its reputation is the quality of its games, like the Divinity franchise. Such meticulous attention to detail in a project demonstrates to players the passion a studio has for game development.
After the studio confirmed that it was working on Baldur’s Gate 3, fans were really excited about the project and were hoping for a very good and solid game. They were not wrong. But what will come next for the studio?
At the GDC, Swen Vincke, the director of BG3 and Larian Studios, discussed a variety of industry-related topics. During an interview with Eurogamer, he answered questions about the studio’s next game.
Well it’s not D&D. So we’re – new in the sense that it is different from the things that we’ve done before. Still familiar enough, but different.
He added that he can’t give much more detail about the project, but he is really excited about this title.
I mean, like: tone, style, way of doing it, are for us certainly new. And I think very appealing. I would love to talk about it already because I’m excited about it but I can’t say more. But it’s new in that sense.
It’s clear that Larian is currently hard at work giving us a project potentially even greater than BG3.
A Studio that Could Really Make a Difference in the Industry
Vincke said that the next game is really different and new, and that the tone and style are also very different from other previous games from the studio. BG3 shows how an independent studio can really go back and forth with its community to improve the experience to a perfect level of immersion.
The next of these developers will definitely have the quality that BG3 has, or even better, Vincke is really excited about this project.
This year, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is making its way into the list of the best of 2024, with incredible gameplay, story, and mechanics that are making players love and hate the experience at the same time. Capcom went far and beyond with this title, making almost no compromise to give players some help; you have to Git Gud or die trying. But the year has just started and is very far from over, so a new challenger could appear.
