This year has been a big year regarding news for the major franchise Assassin’s Creed, as they have Assassin’s Creed Mirage releasing soon and a few more games in development like Assassin’s Creed Jade which will be a free-to-play mobile game which is currently undergoing playtests. Now we have some more information regarding Assassin’s Creed Red which is the codename for an upcoming Assassin’s Creed that is still under development.
What information do we have regarding Assassin’s Creed Red?
Due to a recent leak from an insider, we do have a fair amount of information about Assassin’s Creed Red as insider Tom Henderson came out to Twitter about the two main protagonists that will be available in this upcoming release as they stated Assassin’s Creed Red would be a “powerful shinobi fantasy“. Due to Assassin’s Creed Red being set in feudal Japan, many fans were overjoyed with the idea that the two protagonists would be male and female, one being a Samurai and one being a Shinobi.
At first, Tom Henderson leaked that the two protagonists would be a male and a female, as he assumed that the Samurai would be a female and the Shinobi would be a Male, and at first, fans were quite happy with this, but that changed after Tom Henderson came back to Twitter to admit he had made a mistake and that the gender of these characters will be swapped from his first assumption. Now this wasn’t an issue for many fans as they were very excited to get a feudal Japanese Assassin’s Creed game, but Tom Henderson released that he made an error; he also stated that the Samurai would be a black male Samurai.

Why are fans displeased with this leak?
Even though there isn’t a problem with the protagonist being a black male, a lot of fans are disappointed with this information as many were looking forward to a traditional feudal Japan story with Japanese protagonists taking the reins, as this will be the first iteration of Assassin’s Creed set in Japan, and many fans were looking forward to it.
This doesn’t seem to be the case; unfortunately, according to the leaks, this may be subject to change at any time, but for now, it looks like this will be the direction the game is going in. Even though many fans have come to Twitter to respond to this creative choice by saying things like “equality gone mad” and showing their disapproval, there are some who believe it will follow the story of a real-life Samurai whose name was Yasuke, a black Samurai back in feudal Japan.
This has caused quite a divide in players as many were looking forward to playing as a brand new character in feudal Japan, but some are looking forward to potentially experiencing a story based on a real-life person from that era.
