As the name suggests, the film was based on Basketball. Starring alongside DiCaprio, Ernie Hudson portrayed the role of Reggie in the film. In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonErnie Hudson talked about how DiCaprio beat his b-tt even before he was a famous movie star!

“I won. I won. You know, in the film. But in reality, Leonardo kicked my b-tt. I’m not a basketball player. I think they hired me, assuming because I’m a six-foot-tall Black man that I could play basketball, and I can’t. I’m very bad at it.”

Well, after starring in the film, DiCaprio later found the role of a lifetime when he worked alongside Kate Winslet in James Cameron’s Titanic. However, his alleged rival Mark Wahlberg might have gotten the role of Jack Dawson if he had been a little more focused!

“Wasn’t really interested even in reading. I love James Cameron and I was so excited to meet James Cameron. I was like, yo, is that your Hummer outside? He said, “Yeah”. We’re supposed to have a meeting and I was like let’s go for a ride. ‘Can I drive’. I drove his Hummer around with him and he was like ‘oh this kid’s not focused.'”

And the rest, we know is history. DiCaprio got the role of Jack Dawson and found worldwide fame and love. On the other hand, The Basketball Diaries received an average rating of 7.3/10 on IMDB and a mediocre 47% on Rotten Tomatoes.
