In 2009, Dragonball Evolution happened, which was so disappointing that it made the fans question its existence. The film deviated heavily from Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball, failing to feature the essence of the anime and manga series that fans love and are so passionate about.

From whitewashing the characters to showcasing poor VFX, the live-action adaptation was an abomination in the name of a film. The film featured Justin Chatwin in the role of Son-Goku, who was differently portrayed than he was shown in Toriyama-Sensei’s iconic franchise.

Hence, fans wanted to forget the ghastly addition that looked like an ugly splotch in the Dragon Ball franchise. However, it looks like the fans are ready to give the actor another chance, as they would like him to return to the franchise, but in a different role, which might just redeem his actions in the adaptation.

Dragon Ball Fans Are Ready To Offer Redemption To Justin Chatwin in a New Role

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball stands tall as one of the most renowned and commercially successful anime and manga anime series of all time. The series has been running for several decades, and its popularity has not waned. In fact, it has multiplied in recent times, with video games, merchandise, spin-offs, and several anime films added to it.

However, in 2009, to capitalize on its popularity in Western countries, a live-action adaptation was released titled Dragonball Evolution. However, the film was a ghastly watch that probably got every aspect of its series wrong.

Justin Chatwin, the actor who portrayed the role of Son-Goku, even apologized to Akira Toriyama when the legendary figure passed away at the age of 68 earlier this year from acute subdural hematoma.

However, fans are ready to offer him a chance to redeem his actions by returning to the series as a voice actor for an interesting character. Though the 2009 film was an eye-sore, the only good that it did was to compel Toriyama-Sensei to make more Dragon Ball content.

Hence, the manga artist came up with DBS in 2015. The series is now going to feature a second season and is going to introduce a lot of new forms and faces. One of the new faces is going to be Granolah, the sole survivor of the Cerelian race that was annihilated by the Saiyan Army.

The character has already got a massive fanbase following his debut in the manga, as it brings a refreshing take on the series. Following the conversation with the character, a user (@hotbeybladeguy) on X tweeted, “If you could pick his VA, who would it be?” Though there were many names, a fan suggested that Justin Chatwin should voice the character, which led to a positive audience reception.

Fans React to Giving Justin Chatwin an Opportunity for Redemption

There’s no denying that Dragonball Evolution is an anomaly in the fandom that has severely affected its popularity. However, fans are open to giving the actor a chance to prove his love for the franchise by voicing Granolah in the dubbed version.

However, it felt surprising to some once they learned that James Marsters, the actor who played the role of Demon King Piccolo in the film, had voiced Zamasu in the dubbed version of the anime. Hence, they opened up to letting him play the role, as they left their opinion on the post.

Though the release date of the second season of Dragon Ball Super is up in the air, the possibility of the actor not playing the role should not be ruled out. Moreover, it will bring his arc to a full circle, where the character could right the fans by proving his love for the legendary series.
