Downey Jr. won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Oppenheimer. While he has previously been nominated two times, for his 1992 film Chaplin and the 2008 film Tropic Thunder, this marks his first ever Academy Award.

And the Cry-Baby star also offered best wishes to his friend following his recent Oscar win with a throwback photo. However, the original image did not feature Depp, as the picture shared by Depp was a photoshopped version of Downey Jr. with his former partner, Sarah Jessica Parker.
The image was reportedly taken at a Young Artists Unite event in Los Angeles in November 1988, during the period when Downey Jr. and Jessica Parker were still together. The former couple dated from 1984 to 1991.
The edited image initially shared by the Sleepy Hollow star belonged to a fan account and seemed to have been circulating online since 2021. Although the 60-year-old actor has remained silent on the matter, speculation suggests that his social media team may have been responsible for the oversight.

Upon recognizing the error in the initial post, Johnny Depp promptly removed it and replaced it with a recent, and real photo of the two Hollywood stars. He shared the image on his Instagram stories with the caption, stating, “Let’s try this again…congrats to my dear friend.”
Depp has also earned three Best Actor Oscar nominations for his Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Finding Neverland, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The Oscar-nominated actor has earlier shared his admiration for the Dolittle star, stating, “We’ve known each other for a million years—He’s someone that I’ve always admired.” There are also claims that Downey Jr. is keen on collaborating with Depp for a potential third installment in the Sherlock Holmes film series.
While the claims surrounding Sherlock Holmes 3 have not been confirmed yet, the prospect of the duo sharing the screen is undeniably intriguing. Film producer Susan Downey has previously provided updates on the project, affirming that it remains a priority for Downey Jr.
