Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the upcoming action RPG title from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is all set to release early next year. The Yakuza series has been running since 2005 and has been well-received and loved by players but the upcoming title will seemingly surpass other games in almost all aspects including game length.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will feature several side-missions, making it the longest in the series, and while this might be a good thing for some, the developers are worried that it might be bad for players’ health.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Developers Are Worried About the Game Length
In an interview with the Japanese website Game Watch and translated by Automaton Media, RGG Studio Head Masayoshi Yokoyama revealed some important information about the game. He stated that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio developers are worried that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is shaping up to be a “monster-class game” and might turn off potential players who might find it too long.
Yokoyama said the game will be the longest in the series and that it is a problem for developers to make the players play the whole game. Since the game has a longer playtime, it might be overwhelming for some players and they might give up before they can enjoy and experience the whole thing. Yokoyama stated:
The games take a long time to clear, don’t they? Gaiden not so much, but Infinite Wealth is a monster-class game longer than anything we’ve made so far. If you go at it continuously, you’ll get sick, and it won’t end with just one or two all-nighters.
This means that a lot of people are going to hesitate to play the game or will end up having it wait on their shelves. I found the possibility of that kind of outcome sad, so I thought, we have to get everyone hyped up enough to play it.
He added that players will need more than just two all-night gameplay sessions to beat the game. Yokohoma even mentioned that he is worried if gamers will even bother starting the game and said that they are trying to create a festive atmosphere around Infinite Wealth.
He added that they want to create hype around the game ahead of its launch for players to know what they’re getting into and they can’t help playing it. He stated:
We have to get people to play the game in about a week or a month, even at the cost of their health, which is why it’s our duty as creators to generate enough to be excited about. I’ve thought this way for the past year or two – for a game like Infinite Wealth, we have to get a festival going on. It would feel kind of rude to just drop such a long game and be done with it (laughs).
Like a Dragon games are full of content that attracts the players and why they are so popular and immersive but sometimes they seem tiring for players. One of the main reasons why the upcoming game is so long could be the addition of Dondoko Island mode which might take some time off of players’ hands.
However, developers seem to acknowledge that they are aware of players’ frustration for a long time and are therefore creating such hype around the upcoming title. Masayoshi Yokoyama stated that Infinite Wealth will surpass Yakuza: Like A Dragon and Yakuza 5 in terms of playtime.
Yakuza: Like A Dragon takes around 4 hours to complete Yakuza 5 takes 50 hours so Infinite Wealth might be around 60 hours in length. The game’s story and side events have been teased but there’s a lot more to know about what the game entails.
The game will also offer lots of side content and several customization options that are possibly making it so long. It is also a possibility that the game could even exceed 10 hours of gameplay as there have been Yakuza titles of that length.
