If you have seen any of Cillian Murphy’s works, from his hit TV show Peaky Blinders to the critically acclaimed Chris Nolan film Oppenheimer, you would know it would have been criminal had the actor not become an actor. However, that was exactly what was bound to transpire had it not been due to a few individuals who changed the entire trajectory of his life.
Just like his Oppenheimer co-star, Emily Blunt, Murphy started as a singer and was also offered a record deal. Fortunately for his fans and the film industry, Murphy’s band was unable to sign on and he was forced to turn to acting as a resolve.
Cillian Murphy Would Not Have Been An Actor Today
Cillian Murphy is a star now, even more so than the fame he had received when he starred as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders. After working with Christopher Nolan for years, the actor’s first lead role with the director has already earned him worldwide acclaim as well as numerous accolades and potentially several on the way including an Academy Award.
However, the brilliant actor would not have been an actor had it not been for the parents of some of his band members. Back when he was just in his late teens, the actor was in a band called The Sons of Mr Green Genes. However, the band’s dream was soon broken when they were offered a record deal but that did not work out.
Apparently, the parents of some of his band members did not agree to the record deal, leading to the band’s sad demise. Fortunately for the actor, the end of his musical journey eventually paved the way for him in the acting industry, for he was soon cast in the film Disco Pigs (via The Guardian and Metro.co.uk).
Emily Blunt Too Would Have Not Been An Actor Today
It seems like Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy starring in the Oscar-nominated Oppenheimer wasn’t just a stroke of good luck upon Nolan’s part but also fate. For before Emily Blunt went on to become an actress, she too was up for a record deal.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actress revealed how she would have been a singer now unless it was for Dame Judi Dench.
“I realized that I’m not good at dancing and I didn’t want to be Britney… They said, ‘I think you have a nice voice and I think that you could be a pop star.’ I said, ‘I can’t dance.’ ‘They said, ‘Don’t worry about it, we’ll teach you.'”
And so off she went to Dench for advice, with whom she had her first acting job. And ultimately it was the Dame who convinced her to take up acting as a career.
Oppenheimer can be rented on Amazon Prime.
