The film depicts her gradual poisoning through insulin shots, mirroring the real-life events reported by journalist David Grann in the book that inspired the movie. Gladstone has shared that she lost nearly 30 pounds to accurately depict Mollie’s wasting illness.

And the actress has revealed that she had the same nutritionist Matthew McConaughey had for Dallas Buyer Club, who helped her lose 16 pounds in two weeks. “I lost 16 pounds by doing McConaughey’s exact diet actually,” the Certain Women actress shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

McConaughey has shared that among other things, his diet for the 2013 movie included drinking as much wine as he wanted. She further shared that her diet included “just two cups of vegetables a day for two straight weeks.” And Gladstone shared that following it for two weeks turned out to be really good and left her feeling fantastic.
