This article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97 Episode 7
Steve Rogers made his cameo appearance in X-Men ’97. The character was teased in a trailer that was released in the wake of the attack on Genosha that occurred in Episode 5 of the show, ‘Remember It‘. The character has made an appearance in the show’s predecessor, X-Men: The Animated Series, where he teamed up with Wolverine.
The episode saw Captain America investigating the attack on Genosha, which causes him to cross paths with Rogue, who is on a warpath in the wake of the same attack. Rogue and Captain America have a brief exchange, but Captain America refuses to go about fighting the perpetrators in the way Rogue is, which causes her to throw his shield away in frustration.
Fans are happy with Captain America’s cameo in X-Men ’97
As Captain America made his debut in the successor series, fans could not be more happy with the the cameo and the way it played out. With the arguments that Steve Rogers made for conducting the operation ‘by the books’, fans are more than happy with the way Rogue put the Captain in his place, taking to the internet to share their satisfaction:
This is literally the most petty thing you could do to Captain America 😭 #XMen97 pic.twitter.com/xNBGhV8vB2

While Rogue might have been in the right with how she butt heads with Captain America, given how distanced the character was from the situation. However, Rogue was perhaps too close to the situation, having lost Magneto and Gambit in the attack, something that caused her to go on a rampage to look for Sentinels and Trask on US soil.
More Mutants are turning sour towards Humanity in X-Men ’97
Right before the attack on Genosha, Scott Summers had a very public breakdown about the state of human-mutant relations, which was the culmination of a slew of personal sacrifices that Cyclops had to make for the greater good. With the X-Men becoming increasingly cold to humans, even the more distinguished members of the team, like Beast, are turning their backs on the non-mutant population, wondering if tolerance was the right thing to ask of human beings.
This could all come to a head as the mutant population moves against increasingly paranoid humans, who might mobilize the other Sentinels created by Trask, under the leadership of Mister Sinister or Bastion, who was also introduced in this episode. One can only hope that Charles Xaviers finds his way back to Earth before the X-Men make a wrong decision, given how driven they are towards mutant protection, over building a heroic image for them.
