Now that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has finally been released, Warner Bros. is looking to continue with the movie and TV franchises that it currently owns, as it will be looking towards bringing more of those franchises into the gaming industry and bringing back live service games.

Why is Warner Bros. looking to continue with live service games after Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?

Recently, Warner Bros. has been putting all of its attention on the gaming industry, as it has been keeping track over the years regarding the income and success of the gaming industry as well as live service games.

One of the main aims of Warner Bros. is to bring back live service games, as it has already released Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as a live service game. The reason behind this is that the DC universe is incredibly vast and available for adaptation.

So while people like James Gunn will be working on the DC movies, there will also be a team working alongside them on a game set in the DC universe. One comment that was raised is the fact that they won’t just be making a Superman game while a Superman film is being filmed, as they do not want to feel obligated to do so, which is a good sign.

However, it will be a big challenge to try and keep live service games active for all of its franchises, as Warner Bros. currently owns four different popular franchises, which are Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and DC.

Warner Bros. has already had some success regarding the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones franchise within the gaming industry, as Game of Thrones currently has a mobile game that will continuously have updates as the show progresses with more seasons.

While the Harry Potter franchise will continue to grow and expand as more games based on the Harry Potter universe are created, whether that be Hogwarts Legacy 2, the upcoming Quidditch game, or more. However, there is still the challenge of maintaining these live-service games.

Will Warner Bros. be able to do what other companies couldn’t with live service games?

If Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League works well as a live service game, Warner Bros. will continue with its other franchises.

One of the main issues that comes with a live-service game is being able to maintain player retention over the multiple years that the game is live. One developer that has proven how difficult this task is is Bungie, which has struggled to keep Destiny 2 popular as a live-service game.

The longer that a game goes on, the harder it is to keep players attention, as many gamers will eventually get fed up with the same old content and similar storylines being released on a regular basis.

If Warner Bros. are able to constantly expand on the different franchises they have available to them without having to release new games, which is their intention, then there is a large chance that they could manage to maintain this outdated method of game development for a long amount of time, or at least long enough that they will get out of their merger debt.

Until we see how successful Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is with its live service content, we do not know whether this will succeed or fail. If Warner Bros. is willing to put time and resources into these franchises, then there will most likely be a lot of good news for it as a gaming developer, but if it doesn’t provide its teams with resources, then it will quickly fail as a game development company.
