Mangold has also directed X-Men movies like The Wolverine and Logan in the past. Both superhero movies were highly appreciated by fans. After directing the two Marvel movies with Hugh Jackman, Mangold was never seen taking command of any other superhero movie. Now, there are reports that the Logan director will soon take the lead in the upcoming DC movie Swamp Thing.

James Mangold Beats Guillermo del Toro To Join DCU

Mangold was the one person who has repeatedly been rumored to direct one of the five movies announced by James Gunn, the co-CEO of DCU, as the first chapter of the new DCU. Mangold reportedly is in talks with the studio head, to bring live a very dark horror story. Fans were excited to hear Swamp Thing get finally involved in the DC slate. It came at the very end of all new ten project announcements and has excited fans, who are eagerly waiting to see Swamp Thing on the big screen.

Before Mangold, there was also an upheaval on the internet, where fans demanded the studios let the Mexican filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, direct the movie. Toro has been honored with the Academy Award in the past for his contributions to Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water. When asked if he would like to lead the Swamp Thing, Toro gave fans a pretty promising answer as he expressed his love for the character. 

“Oh, I don’t know. My love for Swamp Thing, The Demon, knows no bounds, but I don’t know. You don’t get a manicure from a big machine, that’s what I learned – you lose a few fingers.”

James Mangold’s Tweet Hinted at His DC Debut

Mangold looks like have already grabbed the opportunity, before Toro. As per the reports Mangold approached the DC studios with the story and is in initial talks. The Logan director’s news about joining the DC continues to spark, Mangold has added fuel to fire by tweeting Swamp Thing’s illustration. The illustration was co-created by the original maker of Swamp Thing, Bernie Wrightson. James Gunn retweeted Mangold’s tweet hinting at the big collaboration which is underway.
