Elden Ring, which also happens to be FromSoftware’s best-selling franchise to date, came out back in 2022. However, it is just now that fans are realizing the game contains an Easter egg, paying homage to none other than Wolverine.

As pointed out by a user on the game’s official Reddit forum, there is an NPC named Logur, Beast of Claw, found in the new Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Not only does his name closely resemble Logan, which is Wolverine’s real name, but he also has claws, which can be obtained after defeating him.

So I just ran into an NPC called ‘Logur, the Beast Claw’ on the Gravesite Plain. This has got to be a Logan reference, right?

There could have been no better time to introduce this NPC than now, bearing in mind that the much-anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine title is releasing soon on July 26, 2024.

There are ultimately other easter eggs in the game that reference different pieces of pop culture media, like Berserk. But nothing beats Hidetaka Miyazaki adding a direct reference to a character just before the release of its movie.

Ever since its release back in 2022, the game as a whole has often been dubbed as a close reference to the famous Japanese manga series, Berserk by Kentaro Miura.

From having weapons and items that allow the tarnished to transform into Guts himself to fans debating if the character of Miquella is based solely on the character of Griffith, we have seen it all.

Furthermore, there is also an indirect reference to George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series that can be found in the game. Being a co-writer of Elden Ring, The Lands Between was inevitably going to pay homage to the author in one way or the other, and it was done by adding a Greatsword that represents the iconic Game of Thrones chair featured in the series.

Miyazaki is ultimately a master in subtly hiding details around his level design, which is why fans keep finding easter eggs and even mechanics years after the release of a Souls game, ensuring the longevity aspect of a title.
