Lords of the Fallen is the latest soul-like action role-playing game released in 2023. It received mainly unfavorable and mixed reviews from reviewers. The game’s unique feature of venturing into two different worlds to complete quests and puzzles was appreciated by gamers. The game also looks visually appealing, powered by the state-of-the-art Unreal Engine 5.
It sold 1 million copies within ten days of launch. It was released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Lords of the Fallen also had a turbulent launch.
An anonymous user took to 4chan, claiming to be an outsourced developer and expressed why the game had technical issues. The leak revealed significant quality-of-life changes with two expansions in the works. However, since verifying such a post is infeasible, readers are advised to take it with a pinch of salt.
Alleged Lords of the Fallen Developer States Why the Game Has Technical Issues and Talks About the Way Forward
The leak was shared on a Reddit post on the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours. The leak said the game switched from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 mid-development. The switch led to the technical issues which are currently plaguing the game. Lords of The Fallen was supposedly meant to be an Unreal Engine 4 game when development began in 2018.
The reveal made by the alleged developer seems to be gaining some weight In a Live Q&A, which was done on Twitch. One can read the transcription of highlights from the stream here. In the Q&A, Saul Gascon, Executive Producer and Head of Hexworks stated why crossplay was disabled.
It was confirmed that the reason why crossplay was disabled for Lords of the Fallen was because Unreal Engine 5 was acting up with Steam. The leak said the studio’s development schedule was hefty. The frequency of updates is being released for the game back up this report. CL Games CEO Marek Tyminski also took to X and said:
We are pleased to confirm, following the release of #LordsOfTheFallen, that CI Games is well positioned for the future games in our development pipeline (Project Survive and action-RPG Project III) We will announce the key data for #LordsOfTheFallen in the coming days (sales and capex).

Continuing, it was also shared by the alleged developer that the team made poor judgement in their ambition and switched to Unreal Engine 5. The team also did not have enough members who had the experience to work with Unreal Engine 5.
Also, the leak suggested that the studio was aware of the game’s broken state. Plans were to stall the release for another year by the devs. However, CI Games studio did not provide clearance for the same. The game was released in a state riddled with glitches, bugs and technical problems.
Lords of the Fallen Expansion Rumors
The leak also shared that Lords of the Fallen will receive numerous Quality of Life updates. Two expansions are also expected to arrive for the game. It was mentioned that one addition would be set in a dream realm called Morpheus. The other expansion will be expanding the current game world with two rival kingdoms.
The development team is working tirelessly to support the game post-launch. They are very receptive to the negative feedback surrounding Lords of the Fallen. A roadmap might also be allegedly coming, as suggested by the leak.
In the end, it was written that people should go on to Lords of the Fallen’s official Discord servers to express their grievances with the game. The developers are taking feedback very seriously.
The effects of Unreal Engine 5 were supported by confirmation from people behind the game. However, the news about expansions is the weakest link, with virtually no assurance. But since most of the leak is well-supported, the expansions and the information regarding them might not be a hoax after all.
With the speed at which issues are being fixed with the game. The game might finally turn out to be the experience the developers intended it to be.
