Confusing and stupid dialogues in the movie are not unheard of but one definitely does not expect it from a movie whose production budget is almost $80 million. Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web has been making a lot of headlines over the past few months after its trailer was released back in November.
Madame Web recently premiered at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, Los Angeles and a lot of fans were left disappointed. This was because one of the most hyped dialogues from the trailer has not been included in the final edit of the film.
Madame Web’s absurd line from the trailer was not included in the movie
Madame Web revolves around the origin story of a Marvel character, Cassie Webb aka Madame Webb portrayed by Dakota Johnson in the movie. Cassie Webb has the powers of a clairvoyant and is trying to save the 3 spider-woman characters from the villain of the movie, Ezekiel Sims as it was shown in the trailer.
The trailer of the movie did not create much hype around the movie anyway but one of the dialogues from it was trolled a lot by the netizens for the sheer absurdity of it. While explaining the origin of Ezekiel Sims to 3 young women that she was trying to protect, Webb said,
“He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.”
The dialogue instantly went viral after the release of the trailer and it seems like the crew and cast of the movie finally realized what was wrong with it and decided to cut it out of the final edit. They decided to phrase the line differently so it doesn’t sound as ridiculous as it did in the trailer.
Dakota Johnson opens up about her ridiculous Madame Web line from the trailer
After the infamous dialogue started making rounds on the internet and gathered a lot of attention, Dakota Johnson was also asked about her thoughts on the dialogue. In an interview with HuffPost UK, Johnson was asked if she was aware of her dialogue going viral and the actress revealed that she had no idea and was unable to comprehend the weirdness of the dialogue after speaking it out loud. She said,
“Isn’t any sentence out of context … out of context?… He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died. That seems like a basic storyline to me, but maybe I’m underneath it.” (Via X)
Madame Web was supposed to be the first movie of a standalone universe but considering how it has performed in the US, it seems like Sony might not be interested in developing further movies. Madame Web has turned out to be a massive disappointment to the fans and a critical failure as it has largely received negative reviews from fans and critics alike. The movie is all set to be released globally later this week on 16th February.
