Mads Mikkelsen has been one of the most interesting actors to watch on-screen owing to his varied performance and versatility. Films like Pusher, Valhalla Rising, Casino Royale, The Hunt, Arctic, and Another Round showed Mikkelsen at his best, making him one of the best actors of the modern era.
The actor also dabbled in big-budget filmmaking by appearing in 2016’s Rogue One and Doctor Strange. The latter had him playing Kaecilius in the MCU. Now a new rumor suggests that the actor is set to return to the MCU with a brand-new character.
Mads Mikkelsen is Returning to the MCU According to Popular Scooper
Mads Mikkelsen played Kaecilius in 2016’s Doctor Strange, who is a former student of The Ancient One and is now in service of the evil Dormammu. Although Mikkelsen gave his all for the role, the characterization left a lot to be desired, and has been considered one of the weaker antagonists in the entire MCU.
Now according to popular scooper Daniel Richtman (via The Hollywood Handle), the actor is set to return to the MCU playing an entirely new character. Fans have always been critical of his appearance in Doctor Strange and have concluded that the incredibly talented actor was completely wasted in the underwhelming role.
It remains to be seen whether this news indeed comes to be true. Marvel must have heard the criticism from fans about his Doctor Strange role and if this news is true, they must have planned something big and substantial that will have a great payoff in the end.
Mads Mikkelsen Has A Unique Take On Why He’s Always Cast as The Bad Guy
Mads Mikkelsen has been known to play characters that have a complex and dark side to them. While he has also played some leading roles in Danish films, most of his Hollywood roles have been villainous roles, for example, Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, and Kaecilius in Doctor Strange.
Mikkelsen attended the recent Marrakech Film Festival and in an acting masterclass session, the actor was asked why he is often cast as antagonists in Hollywood films. Mikkelsen revealed that accents play a huge role in it while also admitting his gratitude to have been a part of some big franchises. He said, (via Deadline)
“It’s quite simple. It’s the funny accent. It’s as simple as that. It used to be Germans, then it was Brits; then the Russians, and then for some reason they fell in love with the Danish accent. That’s definitely part of it, Then if the Americans see something they like, they have a tendency to try and copy it, right.
But I’ve been lucky enough to do different villains in different universes. There’s a big difference between Marvel and James Bond… but I never think about it too much. In Denmark, we don’t divide it into bad guys and good guys, we tend look at more complex characters.”
Mikkelsen has played compelling lead roles in his home country’s films (Danish). Films like The Hunt, Riders of Justice, Another Round, and this year’s The Promised Land have some of the best performances of his entire career.
