Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer and Bradley Cooper’s Maestro are both biographical epics, based on two different celebrated personalities. Although Oppenheimer seems a more important event to witness, both actors did an exceptional job portraying their respective characters.

While Cooper as Leonard Bernstein is sensational, affectionate, and intriguing, Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer is fearlessly emotional, immersive, and intense. Although both actors are being praised for their respective roles, it was widely believed by fans that the Peaky Blinders star truly deserves an Oscar.

Even though the official nominations for the Best Actor category at the Academy Awards of 2024 have not been revealed yet, judging from the nominations of other awards like Golden Globes, Greater Western New York Film Critics Association,  Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts, New York Film Critics Circle, etc. it would be a no-brainer to find out who can put up a tough fight against Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy.

Apart from Bradley Copper, Murphy would have to potentially compete against Andrew Scott for his role in All of Us StrangersLeonardo DiCaprio for Killers of the Flower Moon, Colman Domingo for Rustin, Paul Giamatti for his role in The Holdovers, Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction, and Zac Efron for The Iron Claw.

While these are just predictions, the real winner will only be revealed at the Academy Awards, which will only be revealed on March 11, 2024. However, it would be sufficient to say that this award season is going to be a real heart-breaker for many fans.
