Zac Efron starrer The Iron Claw, which tells the story of the Von Erich brothers, who made wrestling history in the 1980s, earns a significant feat. The sports biopic becomes the best-ever grade movie under the banner of A24.
It’s so well received by the audience that even Florence Pugh and Joaquin Phoenix are staying behind in terms of CinemaScore grade. Zac Efron leads an ensemble in The Iron Claw, that includes Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, Holt McCallany, Maura Tierney, and Lily James. Sean Durkin directs.
The Iron Claw Gets An “A-” Cinema Score
This Sean Durkin directorial sports biopic is the A24 studio’s top CinemaScore ever with an A-. Prior to that, Talk to Me nabbed a B+. Also, the A24 drama opened at $2.4 million on Friday, which is pretty good considering indie production.
The film is centered around the Von Erich family, a dynasty of professional wrestlers from Texas that had enormous success in the 1980s and popularized the iron claw professional wrestling hold. However, they not only had to battle inside the ring, but they also fought the “Von Erich curse,” outside of it: a string of unbearable personal tragedies.
While this movie creates a record as the top-graded movie in A24 studio’s history, one critically-praised horror movie Midsommar, starring Florence Pugh only scored a C+ from the service. Another acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix starring Beau Is Afraid received an F score.
