The Iron Claw Gets An “A-” Cinema Score

This Sean Durkin directorial sports biopic is the A24 studio’s top CinemaScore ever with an A-. Prior to that, Talk to Me nabbed a B+. Also, the A24 drama opened at $2.4 million on Friday, which is pretty good considering indie production.

The film is centered around the Von Erich family, a dynasty of professional wrestlers from Texas that had enormous success in the 1980s and popularized the iron claw professional wrestling hold. However, they not only had to battle inside the ring, but they also fought the “Von Erich curse,” outside of it: a string of unbearable personal tragedies.

While this movie creates a record as the top-graded movie in A24 studio’s history, one critically-praised horror movie Midsommar, starring Florence Pugh only scored a C+ from the service. Another acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix starring Beau Is Afraid received an F score.
