When it was first hinted that Borderlands 4 could be revealed at the Summer Game Fest, fans were buzzing with excitement, and rightfully so. The last proper Borderlands title dropped in 2019, and since then we only had the Tiny Tina’s Wonderland spin-off in 2022.

Well, we have some good news and some bad news for you. Borderlands 4 may not be shown at the event this year. This might burst many bubbles, but it is also an opportunity for a different fan-favorite franchise to gain another installment.

Even with the demise of E3, other events and expos have popped up to fill in the void. As such, summer is one of the most active times for gaming studios and companies to reveal upcoming titles that could be slated for that year’s holiday season. So, the news of a possible Borderlands 4 reveal was considered to be highly likely.

Unfortunately for fans of the franchise, the leaker who provided this information has now come forward to state that they may have jumped the gun. @Kurakasis revealed via their X channel that they can no longer guarantee that such an announcement will take place.

They go on to say they were unable to verify the information sufficiently but requested its publication. The good news is that while the game may not be at the event, Kurakasis believes the game could still be revealed soon. They went on to apologize for their previous reporting and even had Tom Henderson offer some words of guidance insider-to-insider.

Borderlands fans may be upset, but one other fandom has jumped at the thought of their favorite franchise making an appearance: Mafia. @MafiaGameVideos responded to Kurakasis, stating Mafia 4 is now “back on the menu.” When told this might be a little too early, they responded by saying they expect an announcement soon and for the game to be released in 2025 before GTA 6.

The game began development two years ago, so it does make some sense as to why people expect it to be shown sometime soon. However, the announcement of a possible Borderlands 4 dampened any hopes of it being revealed during the event. Now, that hope is reignited, but it remains to be seen if 2K Games comes through.

This year seems to be a year of returning franchises. EA is also rumored to be bringing back Skate, the hugely popular skateboarding title that has been dormant since 2010. The leaked information had many fans excited for a beloved game to be making a comeback after so long.

Nightdive Studios is going to be making Killing Time: Resurrected, a remaster of the 1995 classic horror FPS title. While it was first thought the studio would be doing a remaster or remake of The Thing, it was later revealed that Killing Time: Resurrected is their next project. No release date has been revealed, but we can expect more details soon.
