In the list of open-world titles, the two series that have claimed some of the top spots are surely GTA and Mafia. The whole world is right now suffering from the GTA 6 fever. The announcement is done; all it needs is a proper release date. Amidst this excitement, comes Mafia.
After the huge success of Mafia 3 in 2016, it’s been eight years since fans were waiting for a worthy successor. But as per some recent leaks, the wait might come to an end. But will it be the right decision from 2K to clash against the most hyped title in the world right now, GTA 6?
Take-Two Is Preparing for an Announcement Regarding Mafia Amidst GTA 6 Hype
In a recent X post, credible leaker Kurakasis claimed that in a few days, there will be an announcement from Take-Two regarding the Mafia series.
FYI:
I specifically wrote 'an announcement regarding the Mafia series' because I DON'T KNOW if it's an announcement of Mafia 4, the next-gen update for Mafia Trilogy, or something else. When I find out more, I'll let you know.

Now, GTA 6 has been recently announced, and the anticipation level is at its peak. Rockstar Games and 2K are both subsidiary companies of Take-Two. So, fans are concerned about the potential clash between the two prime open-world titles of Take-Two.
A Mafia release a few months after GTA 6 probably won't be a good idea, it has to be before GTA or 2026

However, the leaker has also stated that there is no certainty about exactly what the announcement is going to be. The announcement can be for the next game in the series, i.e., Mafia 4, maybe the next generation update for the Mafia trilogy, or something else.
Hence, if the next installment of the franchise doesn’t get announced, then the probability of a clash with GTA 6 will be highly reduced.
What Do We Know About Mafia 4?
According to reports, Mafia 4 is in its development stage with the codename ‘Nero.‘ The interesting part is that this title is going to be a prequel to its predecessor, which means it will depict the rise of the Salieri crime family. Unlike Mafia III‘s own engine, the new game is going to be based on Unreal Engine 5.
The first real wave of Mafia 4 broke out in 2022 when the developer company’s head, Haden Blackman from Hangar 13 Studio, left the company after serving seven long years. At the time of leaving, Blackman wrote an email to one of his staff, stating he was going to “pursue his passion at a new endeavor.” And after that, 2K gave a farewell statement in respect of Blackman:
What Haden helped build will continue to carry forward and grow for years to come.
So, if you attach the strings correctly, there are high chances that Mafia 4 is already on the cards, and the new studio head at Hangar 13, Nick Baynes, is leading the development journey of the upcoming Mafia title.
At the end of his X post, Kurakasis stated that he would let us know when he found out more. Are you looking forward to a new Mafia game? Let us know in the comments!
