However, many felt that something was missing, particularly his trademark hairstyle or perhaps the hair itself. J.K. Simmons has now revealed that he fought a losing battle against Marvel in an attempt to keep that iconic hair.

J.K. Simmons Absolutely Hated Being Bald in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Films!

Although the voice of J. Jonah Jameson can be recognized from anywhere, there is something iconic about his look that defines him. Throughout the comics and even the Sam Raimi trilogy, fans were accustomed to seeing the Daily Bugle editor-in-chief in a particular appearance that was partly responsible for his intimidating presence.

However, his transition to the MCU saw a change, particularly in his hairstyle. And just like the fans, J.K. Simmons wasn’t thrilled by it at all. Thus, when ComicBook.com asked the actor whose idea it was to shake things up a bit, Simmons said,

“That was not mine – And in fact, I argued against it. I think honestly, it was a question of by the time they got around to, they were deep into post-production on the movie, and we shot that one day of whatever, two, three, four scenes I had in the first movie. They just cleared out their pictures of their wives and kids and it was shot so quickly that I suspect part of the reason for them arguing against it was, I mean, the logical argument against it is it’s many years…”

He then further continued, reflecting on the Sam Raimi version and the eventual compromise he reached with MCU after the argument. He explained,

“The Sam Raimi trilogy was very much kind of a throwback vibe, and particularly my character – We finally sort of compromised by me saying, I really want to keep the mustache. I really want to keep everything about the guy. But I think at the end of the day, it’s an appropriate way to bring that character into the 21st century as the kind of media mogul that he is as opposed to the kind of dinosaur that he was.”

Although J.K. Simmons is glad he got to keep the mustache, he also understood why the decision to change up the hairstyle was made. Thank goodness the mustache was kept intact, otherwise, the MCU would have been in some serious trouble.

It waa probably done to differentiate from Raimi’s version or perhaps to modernize the iconic character for the 21st century. Either way, although his hair did leave audiences feeling like something was missing, the essence J.K. Simmons brings every time he portrays the character is and forever will be unmatched!
