Elden Ring is back with more content in the form of Shadow of the Erdtree. After being hailed as Game of the Year during The Game Awards two years prior, FromSoftware isn’t quite done yet and continues to grow alongside the game. Set in a new location which will give the players more places to explore and more dungeons to enter with difficult enemies to face.

Originally conceived as part of the base game during development but couldn’t organically fit in, therefore omitted but developers began working on polishing the idea as soon as patches and updates for the base game were complete. These games will push players to the limit by encouraging them to work on their skills and most importantly: timing.

Unfortunately, not everyone can appreciate their games due to the nature of the difficulty, there is one boss in particular who made fans occasionally rage quit or question their abilities, Malenia is a force to be reckoned with, and director Hidetaka Miyazaki has ensured fans that the challenge will be on an equal footing for Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring DLC is the largest expansion by FromSoftware yet

The thrill of facing down a tough is what makes these games so unique. Training from the ground up and accessing loot by defeating enemies and continue to do so until reaching the ultimate build possible. FromSoftware games don’t shy away from controversies about how their games may not be suitable for those who lack skill. As far as lore is concerned, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R Martin did not produce any new mythos or lore for this expansion.

Echoing the success of previous Soulslike titles, Elden Ring has the most refined gameplay and world-building from the entirety of the genre. Older titles of the genre like Bloodborne have also been given the treatment of an expansion but not at this level where there will be new bosses, gears, and equipment for players to choose and customize their loadout, the hours that can be spent on this expansion alone is impressive.

Shadow of the Erdtree will give players the same thrill and then some.

Another reason why it is so well received by fans and critics alike is the fact that the game is heavily influenced by myths, fantasies, and folklore across the world which piqued the interests of those interested in these stories.

FromSoftware has made a name for itself in the gaming industry for producing over-the-top, difficult but not impossible fighting games that are rich in lore, culture appreciation, and ridiculous combat.

The developers are well aware that fans of the genre are looking for something to look forward to, something fresh and not just more of the same, and whatever new challenges they put out is a present for fans. Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on June 21st.
